What's Happening at YOUR child's Maryland daycare center?

Thre's an informative new website available for Maryland: The Maryland State Department of Education has put together a very comprehensive website, allowing the public to search for the licensing inspection records of all the child care providers in the State: msdecompliancereports.org

Childcare

Furthermore, you can search by the provider, or the address, the county, or the type of childcare, depending on what information you have starting out. This could also be used just to get a listing of an area's providers, with all their contact information and license #, thus ensuring they 1) are licensed, and 2) have passed the most recent inspection, and 3) are in the area you're considering for your child(ren).

For instance, when I search Howard County, and then Columbia, for a Licensed Child Care Center, I am presented with 111 results to pore through. What a great centralized spot for all of this information!

While the Department of Education staff is apparently still hard at work entering updated information, this should prove to be a great resource for parents of young children in Maryland. Get the word out!

Best regards,

I want the dining room set! (but NOT the house!)

Well, here we go again! Once more, I'm surprised! Knowing that being a Realtor means also being a coach, chauffeur, negotiator, organizer, educator, declutter-er, stager, decodining room setsrator, planner, marriage counselor, designer, divorce planner, therapist, (just to name a few!) this should probably not have surprised me!

I got a call the day before yesterday from someone who's been searching online for a friend who will eventually make a purchase (though the caller bought her own current home in the past year, so won't be buying.) While searching, and viewing all the online photos, she came across a dining room set she LOVED. She called, wanting to know whether - while she wasn't interested in purchasing the home being offered - whether the seller would consider selling their dining room set! Being fun and able to laugh at herself and knowing it was an unusual request, made it MUCH easier to help her out! While I agreed with her that yes, this was a request I'd never heard before, I said I would give the listing agent a call to check. And wouldn't you know it, the set's not available, having already been moved to the seller's new home, and actually has been out of production for the last three years, and wasn't purchased locally, so it looks like a dead end.

I did look at the photos online, and it is a nice set. Too bad it's not selling the house! I guess this is where you explain to sellers that you want the buyers to notice their home's features, not their belongings!

So the friend of the caller didn't have an agent yet; I'll keep you updated!

Best regards,

Ellicott City and Columbia MD - Some of the Best East Coast Cities for Defense Jobs!

Commuting from Columbia and Ellicott City MDJust about two weeks ago, an article appeared in FedSmith.com (for the informed Fed) entitled Best East Coast Cities for Defense Jobs. Naturally, the Howard County cities of Ellicott City and Columbia were named as two of the important Maryland suburban cities feeding the US Federal Government, the country's top employer, with commuting employees into DC. However, it also mentioned some of the top local employers - in case some of you get tired of the commute, but still want to make use of your valuable clearances -- such as Northrop Grumman, Merkle, Biodefense Research Group, and URS Corp.

While BRAC is reported to be bringing about 45,000 new jobs into the State by 2011, for now the trickle down statistics appearing in print seem to be 5,800 to Fort Meade, 1,400 to the Navy Medical Center in Bethesda, 400 to Andrews Air Force Base, and 9,000 to Aberdeen Proving Grounds, at least to begin with.

And for those ready to search for a new position requiring a security clearance, a matchmaking site, security-cleared personnel to available positions, is available at ClearanceJobs.com -- The good news is, you can choose to live here in Howard County, where Columbia and Ellicott City are ranked #8 on the list of the top places to live in America -- and not have to travel far to your dream job!

Happy new-career-searching!

What I like about Columbia

Snowy bridge in Columbia MDI live in suburbia, which I'm very happy with. Small lot, good neighbors close by, cul-de-sac living to cut down on the drive through traffic, excellent schools, town planned by Rouse. Community amenities galore.

Here's one of the really nice things about the Columbia MD lifestyle - the pathways. Just down at the end of the street, the path, the trees, the green space - and today - the snow!

And of course, the lovely dog that got me out into the snow, rather than admiring it through the windows while I was working on my computer!

Best regards,
