Home Buyer in Sacramento Buying in Granite Bay Speaks Up
Everyone living in Sacramento County, Placer County, Yolo County and El Dorado County needs to read this.
A recent home buyer, and now homeowner and friend living in Natomas, CA called me this week.
While gardening in her backyard in the afternoon, this Sacramento County new homeowner noticed a swarm of mosquitoes.
Since we have a record number of foreclosures, short sales and abandoned houses this is a call to action for all neighbors.
Sometimes, the homeowner has abandoned their house. It takes the bank awhile before they realizes this. In the meantime, no one is taking care of that broken sprinkler, a pool with no chemicals or a pond with standing water.
Remember, that standing water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes. West Nile virus can be a result of this difficult time we are experiencing with foreclosures and abandoned homes.
Realtors have been and still are reporting these properties as soon as we are aware of them to County officials.
You, as a neighbor might know a lot sooner than anyone else by simply peeking over your fence. Take a look behind your house, and to the sides of your home.
Standing water, becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes and the West Nile Virus. We all need to take an active part in reporting abandoned properties with standing water. This is when peeking makes you a good neighbor.
When the County Offices below are called about an abandanded house, the county worker either drains swimming pools, places fish that eat mosquito larvae and or repair or shut off water leaks.
Below, are the numbers to call for each County to report standing water at an abandoned home.

Paper or Plastic, Sacramento? That will be the 15 cents, please if you chose plastic. Our Legislators will be working on passing a bill to charge 15 cents for each plastic bag that your groceries are bagged in.
The reason is that damage is being caused to our ocean by these bags as well as the generational time that it takes for the plastic to break down at the dump.
The E-Friendly thing to do is use a cloth bags. I'm sure you've seen them, they are sold at the grocery stores. And if you start now and buy one each time you go to the store, you will soon have a collection of healthy e-friendly cloth bags.
San Francisco has already banned plastic bags all together. So won't you at least give paper a try? It's important to start...let's not be stubborn. Each person can and will make a difference. We owe it to our children and our grandchildren as well as the creatures in the ocean.
Here's a little hint I learned awhile back:
One thing that is rather cheap to do and I'm sure that you have plenty of at your house...
Take an old T-shirt, cut the arms off and sew up the bottom. This now makes an excellent way to carry your groceries using the arm slots as handles. If you don't sew, take a bunch of T-shirts to the cleaners and ask them to sew the bottoms.

This weekend I showed homes in Fair Oaks, CA which is in Sacramento County, to a home buyer.
We've had some pretty amazing storms which left quite a mess throughout the Sacramento Valley. With winds gusting over 60-70 miles per hour, this left trees uprooted and broken branches everywhere.
I was amazed at how the home owners quickly managed to clean up their properties for the showings. It was obvious from looking at the neighborhoods that everyone had suffered some type of damage.
So, a big "thank you to all of the Sellers in Fair Oaks, CA for working like the dickens to get your yards cleaned up and your homes sparkling. It was truly a pleasure to show your homes."
If you are showing homes for sale do you ever thank the Sellers? Have you experienced some terrific storms where it is obvious that the Sellers had double duty to prepare their homes prior to your showing?
One of the things that I do when showing a house for sale is to leave a pre-made 3x5 form stapled to my business card that contains areas for check marks and areas for writing. This is where I let the Sellers know that I am showing their home to a pre-qualified home buyer along with any notes on what I think or the buyers think of their house. It is also a place to say, thank you.
I look at this as a way of not only helping the Seller but also the Listing agent. It's a good time to tactfully let a Seller know that maybe that poka-dotted room was not appealing to your buyer. The Listing agent may have said that a thousand times to the Seller and with you writing it down just once...the day is saved and the wall gets painted.
If a house has way too much negative, I don't write anything except for the fact that we were there and thank you.
Do you do something special or different that you would like to share? Is there something you leave when attending an Open House or Showing a House to buyers besides your business card?
