Good News!!! Fares on NY Waterways to drop from Monmouth County.

Just a quick note to let everyone know that the fares for commuters who ride the NY Waterway ferries from Monmouth County are going down again. Since December the fares have decreased $51.00.

Effective Monday March 30, 2009 the price of a monthly pass is reduced to $605 down from $635. The 40-trip pass is reduced to $615, down from $646. Ten-trip passes are $190, down from $197. One-way fares are $20, down from $20.50. The company eliminated a fuel-surcharge in December. In addition to the reduction in fuel prices, NY Waterway officials have made changes to maintenance and operations to increase effieiency.

Where have all the newspapers gone???

I walk my dog every morning for a half hour. We walk all around the development and in doing so I observe a lot. I notice when neighbors get new roofs, new windows or when the hot water heaters have died. I take notice and try to keep a tally in my head. This way I know what to personally expect next as far as my own home maintenance goes plus I see who is putting out a large amount of garbage. Maybe they are cleaning out to sell. I beef up my contact with them.

Anyway, today is recycling day in my neighborhood. One week glass and plastic and the alternate week is newspapers. This week in newspapers. We have all heard that newspapers are losing readers left and right. I always found that hard to believe because I absolutely can not start my day without reading my newspaper. I still bundle up to go outside and retrieve it from the curb. My father always read the paper everyday and just about every day of my adult life, I have done the same. Well today, it finally hit me! I walked past house after house with NO newspapers at the curb. I thought maybe the garbage men already came but then I saw 1 or 2 houses with papers waiting to be picked up.

Of the 50 houses that I walked past today maybe 6 houses had newspapers at the curb. I find that very sad. I understand that people read the news on the internet. I don't like to do it because I don't think it is the same experience. Recently I wanted to make a copy of a very good real estate related article and decided to go on the internet and print a clean copy instead. I was all over that site and could not find the article I wanted. Now, I was looking for and couldn't find it. How do people read news online? I think you miss so much by not seeing it in the paper. You might see national topics or big stories but local news is lost.

Many people say that they "look" at the local free newspaper that gets thrown on our driveways every week. I tend to disagree because as I walk I also notice that most of them are left in the street or driveway until they are unrecognizable piles of rubble that become an oily mess and create a terrible stain!!!
