Whitewater Falls drops from North Carolina into South Carolina. This is the highest waterfalls in our area. The tumbling and churning of the water helps to produce some of the cheapest electricity in the south east.
The falls tumble into the Jocassee Hydro station which is owned by Duke Energy. Once the water leaves the hydro station it flows into Lake Jocassee and then to Lake Keowee and on to Lake Hartwell, part of the Savannah River system.
Whitewater Falls one of 80 waterfalls in Oconee County. Most are on National Forest or state lands so they have good trails. Whitewater falls has a paved trail that is accessible by wheel chair or scooter to the top of the falls. The observation deck is about 200 feet below and then the trail the lower falls is another 45 minute hike. So you can enjoy the falls no matter what your hiking experience is.
Once you leave the falls you can go through the gate at the Bad Creek project, down to the Jocassee overlook. The overlook has a gazebo and many hiking trails, some short and some not so short. This is a great spot for a picnic or just to get some wonderful pictures. We call this our hidden jewel, you must go through the gate and it is not advertised. There is also a trail to the base of the falls from this area, ask the gate keeper for a map or directions when you enter this area.
My friend, Tina Fripp did a watercolor painting of this falls which is sometimes available on her web site, www.tinabfripp.com. If you do not see it there, email her. I know she still has prints available. This print is above my computer monitor as it is one of my favorite falls. Even if you can't visit you can purchase the print and enjoy apart of my beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain Foothills.

4/25/10 Just listed 2 new waterfront properties at Lake Becky. Lake Becky HOA Fees are $100 per year. No boat motor limit, but no jet skis. This is a 90 acre private lake, if you don't own land to the water, you are not allowed to use the lake. These properties are waterfront with over 200 feet each both have a western exposure, so you can enjoy the sunset views over the water.
600 Lisa Lane has an end
of the road setting with 275 feet on deep water. The lot is the top of the ridge, hardwood trees and perks for a 5 bedroom gravity septic system. The deep well (over 500'), driveway and underground power have been installed.
This lot is unrestricted. Camp while you build or have a family campground with more than one house...the property is over 3 acres.
The front boundary is the lake, the back line is Sumter National Forest and this 3 acres are at the end of Lisa Lane. We had to get a court order to open the road to the lot. This one of a kind property is offered at $225,000.

Lots 5 & 6 Lake Becky Road have over 200 feet on deep, deep water (about 16' deep). These lots will work best with a home that has a day light basement, walk out to the sundeck on the dock. This will make the access to the lake very easy, not the steep climb others in the neighborhood have. This property is approved for a 4 bedroom, gravity feed septic system. The lots have hardwoods, pines, mountain laurel and rhodendrum. These lots will be sold together, they are restricted to homes of 1500 square feet. This property is offered at $155,000.
If you do not want to do the building process, check out our listing at 153 Lakeside Dr, Mountain Rest, or 681 Chattooga Lake Mountain Rest. Both are waterfront homes.
