Sex Sells!

There was a post the other day by that title. And I believe it is very true, unfortunately. I say unfortunately because it has become very accepted in our society. Sexy is in, and has been for over 40 years now. The definition seems to change a little from time to time, such as, thin is in, then voluptuous is in, then thin is in again... it seems to be a moving target. I've even enjoyed the phase myself where bald is in. Something for everyone. I'm especially drawn to the bald stage... as I'm all over that.

So with that being said, I would like to share the sexiest thing I know with you. It's a very hot book, it's one of the most sensuous writings ever! It is also in the best selling book ever! In my book it's called Song of Songs, in other books it's called Song of Solomon. Here's how it starts...

1: 1. Solomon's Song of Songs.

Beloved
2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—
for your love is more delightful than wine.

3 Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes;
your name is like perfume poured out.
No wonder the maidens love you!

4 Take me away with you—let us hurry!
Let the king bring me into his chambers.

Is that hot or what? How about this part...

5: Beloved
2 I slept but my heart was awake.
Listen! My lover is knocking:
"Open to me, my sister, my darling,
my dove, my flawless one.
My head is drenched with dew,
my hair with the dampness of the night."

3 I have taken off my robe—
must I put it on again?
I have washed my feet—
must I soil them again?

4 My lover thrust his hand through the latch-opening;
my heart began to pound for him.

5 I arose to open for my lover,
and my hands dripped with myrrh,
my fingers with flowing myrrh,
on the handles of the lock.

6 I opened for my lover,
but my lover had left; he was gone.
My heart sank at his departure.
I looked for him but did not find him.
I called him but he did not answer.

Now that's hot... and it's in the Bible. I know not many churches seem to want to address this book much. Of course there is the "sister" reference... although she was not his sister clearly. But it's the best guideline for young love, dating, marriage and all of life lived passionately. And that's reading it as it's written in it's natural context. It's God's handbook for relationships. Dr. Phil has nothing on this one.

Now look at it allegorically, which some theologians don't like, but since I'm not one... I will. Jesus is waiting for his bride. (Guys sometimes have trouble thinking of themselves as brides-me included) But I know I'll look great in white on my wedding day. I will be as sexy as I possibly can for my husband. We are to get ourselves ready for our eternal marriage. We need to be releasing the world and it's views and follow what our husband-to-be wants in his bride.

In another era, In Luke 7 there is a story of Jesus going to eat at a home of a Pharisee named Simon. Now these guys were fanatical about keeping the law. There was a woman who came upon hearing Jesus would be there. She was a sinful woman. We are not told her exact sin, but reading between the lines many deduce she is either a prostitute or adulteress woman. She approached Jesus and washed his feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. She recognized true majesty when she saw it...

LUKE 7:44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little."

Now that could be a very sensuous act, especially in that day. She was most likley known by the other men in the room, how did she gain access to a rich man's home? But the Lord was pure and he accepted her offering with much grace. That's all He's looking for from all of us. There is nothing wrong with sexy in the correct way. Let's start thinking sexy... but in a purer way. Do you see this woman? I want to be that woman... and I'm a man!

Tommy Nelson is the best teacher I've found today on this subject. I encourage you to check it out.

Are you depressed?

Sorry, but I'm not asking about the conditions of your real estate market but of your health. Here are just a few facts I found from http://www.upliftprogram.com/depression_stats.html. I personally know many people currently taking medication for this disease and it's very troublesome.

Depression Statistics

  1. Depressive disorders affect approximately 18.8 million American adults or about 9.5% of the U.S. population age 18 and older in a given year. This includes major depressive disorder, dysthymic disorder, and bipolar disorder.
  2. Everyone, will at some time in their life be affected by depression -- their own or someone else's, according to Australian Government statistics. (Depression statistics in Australia are comparable to those of the US and UK.)
  3. Pre-schoolers are the fastest-growing market for antidepressants. At least four percent of preschoolers -- over a million -- are clinically depressed.

[Pill-Popping Pre-Schoolers | Even Toddlers Get the Blues]
  4. The rate of increase of depression among children is an astounding 23% p.a.
  5. 15% of the population of most developed countries suffers severe depression.
  6. 30% of women are depressed. Men's figures were previously thought to be half that of women, but new estimates are higher.
  7. 54% of people believe depression is a personal weakness.
  8. 41% of depressed women are too embarrassed to seek help.
  9. 80% of depressed people are not currently having any treatment.
  10. 92% of depressed African-American males do not seek treatment

Do these numbers jump out at anybody else?

It is my belief that modern medicine although making great strides in discovering the cause in our physical bodies can't address the real roots of this problem. Modern medicines do wonderful things to help the neurotransmitters in our brains that are not functioning properly. There is a man we have discovered named Henry Wright who is doing amazing things in his ministry because he attacks the roots of diseases that are spiritual roots. He wrote a book called A More Excellent Way. A More Excellent Way
In this book you'll find many diseases that come from spiritual roots. Depression according to his writings is rooted in Lack of Self-Esteem, self rejection, self-hatred and guilt and are very damaging to the human spirit. There are so many causes of these problems that space doesn't permit me to even scratch the surface. My main goal with this post is that someone will actually delve into the information I've given here and that you will be set free from these shackles and bonds. I happen to know a little bit about depression. It is rampant in my family. I am not afflicted myself because I've addressed the painful roots, dug them out and destroyed them. You can too! It is not easy, but it is so rewarding at the other end of it.

I pray for you in general, contact me if you like and I'll pray for you personally. Let's get off these meds that just mask the real problem and be well in Jesus' name.

Psalm 147:3 - He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

Bob

Who can love you like this?

We just returned our oldest daughter Gretchen to college the other week. It coincided with The Call in DC so we stopped there to show our support of Lew Engle since it was close to our route. It was a marvelous time praying and fasting for our country and our collective futures.

Our next stop overnight was MorningStar Fellowship Church and a room at Heritage Ministries Hotel. We highly recommend this place, the Spirit of the Lord is so thick there you can really feel it, not to mention a decent room is only $60. a night. Don't expect many amenities other than God being all over you though... it's enough for us to feel this is the best bargain in the world at the moment.

So, I told you that to tell you about the latest experience we had while staying there. A few days before we were to leave, I started getting a pain in my right ear. We have a pool so swimmer's ear happens once and awhile around here. I tried my best to ignore it and didn't want to even think about it being possible as I feel I walk in Devine health. Pride! Each day before we left it kept feeling a little worse. By the time we got there for the night it was sore enough that it was hard to lie on.

Sunday morning service was awesome and at the end of the service, Bob Jones himself stood up and called out a word of knowledge. He said, "Someone here has pain in a right ear." I was ready to stand and fill in my family what i'd been keeping to myself and then Bob added, "with some blockage." Nope, wasn't me and it didn't go away so I figured it wasn't meant for me. I wrongly thought that by calling it out I should have felt something already. Well, we stayed for their nightly service since they are still in the revival mode there. During the message Steve Thompson told of a time when he had a busted hand that was never healed right and was really bothering him of late. They had a guest speaker on campus who also walked in the healing gifts. Steve approached him and asked him to pray for his hand. The man turned around and said "Oh yeah, I hear Carpal Tunnel Syndrome" and proceeded to say a few words along the effects of "Be healed in Jesus' name." Steve went on to say how disappointed he was in the man. In fact he was secretly upset at the man. The gall of this guy, first he had the wrong word of knowledge then he couldn't spend anymore time than "Be healed in Jesus' name?" Come on! He went home burning up over it. When he awoke the next morning, it was all healed and he hasn't had a problem with it since.

Now, for some reason I guess this part really didn't sink in because then Robin McMillan stood up afterward and called out "Someone here has a right ear in pain?" Again I was going to claim it and he went on... again, with "and has some hearing loss." Daggum it! Not me again. Still hurting. Well, we still had a wonderful time in the Lord that night anyway, our daughter and her boyfriend were slain in the Spirit for the first time ever and he was changed forever by it. It was pretty sweet in all.

Now on our way out the door afterward, a young girl who is a student at their school, said hello to our kids and as I was walking by she just looked at me and said the strangest thing. "My right ear has been burning for the last few minutes and I don't know why!" She looked right at me as if she knew it was all my fault. Bonnie looked at her ear and agreed with "Yes, it's bright red and looks like it's on fire!" That's when it hit me how God had been trying to get my attention all day to help me out... I just wasn't able to hear the whisper. She asked if she could pray for me after I confessed it was me and everyone in my family just looked at me like, huh? I explained how I was thinking it was opening a door for satan to do his work if I admitted my ear was hurting... Bonnie looked at me with that -Dumb manly pride- look. So she just put her hand on my ear and said a quick prayer, and I heard a popping sound like a knuckle crack, which you can't do with one hand, so I suppose I did have some blockage afterall. Should have listened to Bob Jones to begin with! Pride is one of the biggest roadblocks to being closer to God. He loves me so much, He wasn't going to let me leave without fixing me. Now that is the greatest love of all.

Have a great weekend everybody, and know that He loves each of you every bit as much.

Psalm 103:3- who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.

"I have food to eat that you know nothing about."

Then his disciples said to each other, "Could someone have brought Him food?"

"My food," said Jesus, "is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish his work." John 4:32-34

This was said just before Jesus talked about the harvest time. Today, if you would just take one minute to pause and think before you respond to someone who maybe has offended, enraged, irritated or just kind of rubbed you the wrong way... Think of these timeless words. They were spoken by God the Son knowing He was going to be mistreated, beaten beyond recognition, spate upon, cursed at and ultimately crucified. All this by people who just loved and received Him into their city just the previous week. We live in a fickle world and we have the power to calm any storm by the authority placed in us, through Him.

So today, I'm asking that you face any adversity knowing, you won't be crucified; and knowing that, you should try to uphold and finish the work of He who sent His only Son. This is the food we should eat. Eat well. Finish well.

I seem to get a least one or two a week. They are usually from other believers and they believe them. I suppose I am not as trusting nor naive. There are so many of these going around and everyone just signs them and forwards, without any thought. There are several good websites of watchdogs where you can discover quickly whether or not these erumors are truth. People who care enough to really research these things.

Here's a couple.

At best these types of emails are just junk or spam, at the worst they are generated by robotic programs that are just keying in on email addresses that hit the forward button. Yeah, they can do that! Then bam, you're on a new email list to inform you of where you can buy illegal drugs legally!!! Ah, the irony.

As a Christian, I don't believe that God is in need of anyone puffing Him up or exagerrating to make Him look better. I also believe that in my experiences we believers can tend to exhibit more fear than non-believers... that is so backwards!

Here's a second one I received about Sarah Palin. It was a letter written attesting to her character from someone in Alaska. This one checked out true.

Alaskan's Viewpoint of GOP VP Candidate Sarah Palin-Truth!

Summary of the eRumor:
A resident of Wasilla, Alaska wrote her views on Republican VP Candidate Sarah Palin pointing out her executive experience and calling her "America's answer to Margaret Thatcher"
The Truth:
We contacted Deb Frost in Alaska and she confirmed that she wrote this to a friend on the morning August 29, 2008. Her friend then forwarded it to some friends. By Monday September 1 this email had snowballed into one of the most circulated emails for the weekend.

A real example of the eRumor as it has appeared on the Internet:

Written by Deb in AK, Friday, 8/29/2008:
One Alaskans opinion about our new Republican VP candidate...

Feel free to agree or disagree, but here is an Alaskan's viewpoint on our new VP candidate (and it is an opinion shared by the vast majority of Alaskan residents).

Sarah Palin is the US's answer to Margaret Thatcher!

Anyone who thinks she cannot handle the job or deal briskly and efficiently with ANY issue, including foreign governments ... well, they haven't met our Sarah <grin>. She is not "just a woman", she is not "just a way to get votes" and if anyone expects her to smile, simper and be sweet - they don't know Sarah. She is *more than* qualified for the job and the best possible choice McCain could have made.

As an Alaskan resident as well as a resident of Wasilla, AK, where Sarah Palin was at one time Mayor ... I can speak with confidence. Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska is exactly what she portrayed during her introduction this morning and exactly what our US Government needs. She is ethical to a fault (if there is such a thing), a refreshing change to the status-quo and as smart and determined a PERSON (gender really isn't an issue here as far as I'm concerned) as anyone could ask for at the head of government.

Sarah is no naïve "small town mayor" - she just *started out* there. Btw, as Mayor of Wasilla, she brought this "small town" through a lot of GOOD changes and left it at the end of her term having grown to the 4th largest CITY in Alaska - a lot of growth and a stronger economic base than ever before.

She has EXECUTIVE experience *running a government* (something NONE of the other candidates can actually boast, even John McCain <g>) as Governor of Alaska and got there by defeating the *incumbent* Republican Governor, who was definitely part of the "old school" and who WAS very much in the pocket of the big oil companies. We in Alaska wanted change -and we got it in the person of Sarah Palin!

Sarah Palin is everything she looks to be and more. Her approval rating as Governor of Alaska has been as high as 95% and is currently leveled out consistently in the upper 80 percentile throughout the state (and in both parties) - the HIGHEST approval rating of ANY sitting Governor.

Sarah has been turning around corruption in the Legislature of Alaska - turning things on their ear for that matter; cutting spending in spite of the increased income the state is currently receiving due to the high oil prices - she has insisted on putting a huge amount of the "windfall" into savings for the future rather than spending, spending, spending - and has insisted from the get-go on what she refers to as "honest, ethical and transparent governing" - no more closed door meetings and dealings - the big oil companies thought she would be a pushover and have learned better to their chagrin.

She understands the "real people" and the economic issues we all face (Alaskans along with the rest of the country) - she was one of "us" not long ago. Rather than passing useless "laws" or throwing money at pet projects, she (most recently) temporarily suspended the state gas tax (on gasoline at the pumps, fuel oil and natural gas for homes, etc.) and has ordered checks issued to ALL residents of Alaska this fall in an attempt to assist with the burden of high fuel costs for the upcoming winter. I could go on and on, but that's enough for now <smile>. She isn't doing these things to be popular - she is doing it because her constituents are HURTING financially and she is in a position to help.

She became Governor of Alaska by defeating the Incumbent Republican Governor and doing it *without* the money or the support of the Republican Party, which was amazing in itself - and she won by a landslide. The "powers that be" at that time totally underestimated Sarah and learned better the hard way. Let's hope Obama does the same. Sarah has done exactly what she claimed she was going to do when elected and is just as popular today as the day she was elected - perhaps more so since even the Democrats up here seem to like her - she works well with both sides in the Legislature here.

Sarah "belongs" to us (Alaskans) ... and although we are going to be terribly sorry to see her leave before she finishes the job she started here (two years ago) straightening out OUR State <grin> ... we understand she is needed for a bigger purpose and hopefully her Lt. Governor will be able to fill her shoes here and continue the job.

As for worrying about what would happen if McCain were to die or step down or whatever ... here in AK we've only been wondering how long we would be able to KEEP Sarah in Alaska and have seen her as our first woman President of the USA from the start. It's always been a matter of whether she would wait until the end of her TWO terms as Governor (no doubt at ALL that she would be re-elected if she ran for a second term at the end of her current term) ... or end up in Washington sooner. She could do the job TODAY.

Personally, I feel a lot better about McCain now that I know he has someone as savvy, as strong, as ethical and as steady as Sarah at his back. She will be an excellent Vice President ... and my guess is she will be our US Republican Presidential candidate in four years - AND by then the country will KNOW her - will love and respect her as we do here - and she'll win by as much of a landslide as she did here in Alaska. I only wonder if McCain has a clue what he is unleashing on the US of A <grin>. She is going to be a fresh wind, but also a strong wind.

Is that enough of an endorsement? If not, I'll add this ... my husband and I have for many years felt the best "vote" was to vote for the lesser of two "evils" and hope they didn't do too much damage. Two years ago during our State Governor's race was the first time EVER that we actually asked for not just a little sign to put in our yard showing our support of our candidate (something we've never felt the desire to do at all before) - we asked for a full 4' x 8' "SARAH PALIN FOR GOVERNOR!" sign and were proud to display it. She hasn't let us or Alaska down. She will do the same for the USA if given the opportunity.

Feel free to pass this on to anyone who may be interested (and spam those who aren't!).
