Online information now available for a better San Marcos.
During the holiday weekend, in between writing offers and showing property, we took a little time to go on a short hike in Escondido at Daley Ranch. Although there are over 20 miles of multi-purpose trails, we hiked only about 5.5 miles on a very easy trail. For more information on Daley Ranch, the trails and the history, visit the City of Escondido website.
Iron Mountain via the Ellie Lane Trail
Although it may be a bit too hot to hike up to Iron Mountain in the summer, I highly recommend this hike in the cooler months. The Ellie Lane trail route to the Iron Mountain Trail is far less traveled then the Iron Mountain trial alone plus it adds about 4 miles to the hike. The area appears to be fully recovered from the 2003 wildfires that did so much damage with many, many different native plants.
The Ellie Lane Trailhead is just under a mile North of the highway 67 and Poway Rd junction. There are fewer parking spots so it is preferable to get an early start. Be aware that there are a lot of snakes in the area, which is another reason to hike this trail in the cooler months.
Prior to showing property last Saturday, we hiked the Ellie Lane Trail to Iron Mountain and had a wonderful time. It was a perfect day for a short hike. Foggy in the morning and full sun by the time we reached Iron Mountain. In our group of hikers, we also had a few people "Geocaching" and that can make the hike take a little longer but it can also make the hike more fun.
FLAG DAY - JUNE 14th
The Kiwanis Club of San Marcos is collecting U.S. and CA flags that have flown proudly over homes and businesses in San Marcos and are now ready for retirement. If you have never been to a flag retirement, you will not want to miss this opportunity. If you have attended then you know how special the event is.
The flags will be collected at several locations around San Marcos until June 10th (listed below). If you or someone you know has a flag that is in need of being retired, please bring it to one of the locations and then join us for the retirement ceremony.
Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the wonderful program, which includes patriotic songs, readings and audience participation.
Assisting with the ceremony will be our local Cub Scout Pack 662 and the Rancho Buena Vista Chapter of DAR.
