San Marcos Fire-Training Burn May 7th

The San Marcos Fire Department will conduct structure fire training on Thursday, May 7 at 8 am using a house in San Marcos that was slated to be demolished. The training exercise is scheduled until 5 pm, but may conclude sooner. The house is located at 419 Autumn Drive.

During the exercise, training instructors will set fires in prepped rooms. Fire crews will size-up the fire and then select and execute the appropriate strategies and tactics for the situation. This will be repeated several times as long as the building remains safe. When the house is damaged to the point that training activities are no longer safe, the house will be allowed to burn down completely. Fire crews will remain on hand until the fires are completely extinguished.

Live fire training provides experience for firefighters that will make them safer and more effective during actual fire emergencies.

No street closures are planned during this exercise; however, local residents should be advised of the activity.

For more information, please call San Marcos Fire Department Division Chief Chuck Morton at (760) 744-1050, extension 3502.

Recycle your used cell phones

Every year, Americans buy more than 100 million cell phones, yet fewer than 20% of old cell phones are recycled. Discarded phones represent about 65,000 tons of electronic garbage every year.

Instead of leaving your old cell phone in your junk drawer or putting it in trash, which will cause it to end up in the landfill, PLEASE donate your old/used cell phones to the San Marcos Historical Society. The San Marcos Historical Society will make sure that the old cells phones are recycled properly while at the same time raising a few dollars to help sustain the operation of the museum and the homes at Heritage Park.

The Museum is located at 270 W. San Marcos Blvd and is open 12-4 Wednesday through Sunday.
