The Kiwanis Club of San Marcos is gathering recipes for our big fundraising event of the year. We are looking for favorite family recipes to include in our historically themed cookbook. This might include a recipe that has been handed down by family members for generations or a current family recipe that is a favorite. Along with everyone's favorite family recipes there will be included short stories about the recipe and where it originated. The recipes can be complex or very simple. I located one from my great great grandmother for making pickles hand written in the late 1800s.
Since our club is located in San Marcos, we are working closely with the San Marcos Historical Society to include local historic food related photos and stories. This will be a fantastic resource and keepsake when completed.
If you are interested in helping us help the children of the world and would like to see your favorite recipe in print, please contact me. Steve@HankinsAndHall.com 760-809-1637
What a great tag line for a coffee house!
Ryan Bros Roastery has opened a new location in San Marcos at 133 N. Twin Oaks Valley Road near the Old Spaghetti Factory. (78 and Twin Oaks Valley Rd) Although the opening has taken a few extra months that were not planned, it was definitely worth the wait.
A wonderful place to relax and have a cup of your favorite coffee or tea with a friend. I am not exactly sure where they get their pastries but the coffee cake was sweet (but not too sweet) , moist and very fresh.
For folks like Russel Ray-Property Consultant that are all over San Diego County, it is a very convenient location to meet with valuable clients or simply for a quick stop to enjoy the moment.
The new housing stimulus plan approved last week has some nice additions to it over and above the one offered by Congress last year. The biggest difference is that the tax credit is no longer required to be repaid which is a huge improvement over last years bill (which was basically a 0% interest 15 year loan). Yes, the $8,000 comes as a "no strings attached" gift from Uncle Sam. The maximum tax credit amount has increased to the lesser of $8,000 or 10% of the purchase price. This bill is only good for 2009, so make sure your escrow closes before the end of the year. Do remember though that the tax credit comes when you file your federal taxes, not at the date you buy your home. In some cases, you can file the credit on 2008 taxes to speed it up, but talk to your accountant on that one. Also, you must still be a first time homeowner to qualify for the tax credit (meaning you haven't owned a home in the last three years). There are also income limitations (75k for single, 150k for married couple) to qualify for the tax credit, so if you make more than that, there is a gradual phasing out of the credit until at 95k (for single) and 170k for couples the benefit disappears entirely.
