Work is continuing on the "43 connector" in New Bern...The last girder for this bridge/overpass at Hwy 70 east was set the night of June 3, 2008. This project has a projected cost of 38 million dollars. When complete this roadway will make access to Bosch and other businesses in this area easier. In addition travelers on NC 43 will have access to a four lane roadway quicker and easier.
Craven Regional Medical Center is our hospital. It has approx. 313 beds for patients that need medical attention requiring hospitalization.
CRMC is undergoing an expansion program to provide even better services for the public. Construction is underway to add one floor to the older main building and 2 floors to the newer section on the right of the building.
After all the renovations are complete in the Fall of 2009 a net gain of 37 beds is expected. This will bring the new capacity to about 350 beds. In addition all Med/Surg rooms will be private.
This expansion is extimated to cost about 22 million dollars and work is ongoing.
The new wings will add 20 beds for Cardiovascular Intermediate Care, 20 beds for Med/Surg and 20 beds for Orthopedics with handicap access.
Craven Regional is a major area employer with approxomately 1800 employees providing superior medical care to the citizens of eastern NC.
I recently visited Union Point Park and quickly decided that things are getting "pretty duckie"!
It's Spring and mother nature is hard a work. Love is in the air, in the water and even in the park.

It alway fun to watch the "wildlife" at the park and look over the Neuse River winding it's way to the ocean via the Pamlico Sound. I alway leave with a better spirit and appreciation of living in New Bern. We're lucky to be able to look out over the river. With the sun coming up over the horizon, viewing the wonders we often take for granted brings me back around every time.
Last year we had a Mallard family nest behind our real estate office. It was a real show stopper when they followed "MAMA DUCK" to the river....PAUSE., RELAX and ENJOY!
Visit your park soon and kick back, it's time well spent.
I was looking at some information I got from Cherry Point today and was amazed at the economic impact Cherry Point has on North Carolina.
According to the Command Analysis and Review Office documents Jan. 2008 the estimated fiscal year 2008 impact is a whopping $1,456,094,487 benefit to the NC economy.
An estimated 5,000 civilian employees work on base making it the areas largest employer.
The top five local contractors utilized by Cherry Point in fiscal 2007 recieved contracts totaling $22,997,555.00
Cherry Point contributes alot to our area that can't be express in dollars, I will discuss that in another post.
Thanks to our Marines..
Remember May is National Military Appreciation Month.
