2. In a condominium building or in a single family home each unit is owned by individuals. Tenants pay rent to the owner or people who rent from the original owners.

3. If something breaks in an apartment the maintenance department of the complex is contacted and they are the ones responsible for bringing things back into working order.

4. If something breaks in a condo or single family home the tenant must contact the owner so that they can contact an outside company to make the necessary repairs.

5. A Realtor is not needed to rent an apartment, although they can help the with the search and save a lot of time and effort on the part of the tenant.

6. To rent a condo or single family home either a lease consultant or Realtor is needed to handle the transaction.

7. When renting an apartment the monthly rent is not something that can be haggled over, although apartment complexes frequently run specials such as 1 month free or $99 application and/or administration fee.

8. When renting a condo or home an offer can be made similar to that of buying a home.

9. The utilities included in the rent are set in apartment complexes, whereas with individual owners, the owner can opt to pay or charge for seperate utilities such as electric, gas, sewer, water, cable, and Internet connections.

10. Be prepared to supply personal information when looking into an apartment, condo, or home for rent. Current and previous addresses including landlord phone numbers, employer information, income, and a credit report is usually required by both apartment complexes and individual home owners. In addition some condominium association's and apartment complexes require a background check.

11. When looking for an apartment, condo, or home for rent animals may or may not be accepted. If they are there may be a pet deposit (either refundable or nonrefundable) and in an apartment complex a pet rent may apply.
