Jean-Michel Cousteau Comes to Redondo Beach
Ocean conservationist Jean-Michel Cousteau makes an exclusive South Bay appearance at Dive N’ Surf in Redondo Beach on Saturday, February 18th from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. Cousteau will be signing his memoir, My Father, the Captain, answering questions and chatting with fans. 
The book signing will take place during Dive N’ Surf’s Annual Yard Sale with a percentage of the book sale profits benefitting Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society.

The Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center presents international ukulele sensation Jake Shimabukuro on Sunday, February 19, 2012. He is being compared to Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis while earning acclaim for completely redefining an instrument and his most recent album debuted at #1 on the Billboard World Album Chart. The show starts at 2:00 pm and since I’ve just been informed tickets for this performance have already sold out, I won’t bother with the contact info. Sorry!
608 North presents a photography exhibition which opened on Saturday, February 11th and will run through Saturday, February 25th. Our World in the Eye of the Photographer features the work of thirteen exciting photographers. Celebrate Carnevale Venetian style at Il Fornaio next Tuesday, February 21st. The festivities get under way at 3:00 with appetizers, drink specials and live performances. Entertainment includes face painting, live music, clowns, balloon artist and magician. Guests are welcome to come in costume or wear Carnevale masks, which will be provided. Walk With Sally is hosting a mixer next Thursday, February 23rd in preparation for their annual Bowl-a-Prom fundraising event to be held in March. Things to Do in the Beach Cities
The Beach Cities give a great place to run & raise money for worthy causes at the same time. Thanks to Jackie Balestra, we don't have to miss a thing!
This Sunday, February 12th marks the return - after a two year hiatus - of the 58th Annual John Hales Sand & Strand Run in Hermosa Beach. Proceeds will benefit Project Touch, a non-profit organization working with at-risk teens in the South Bay. There are four separate races scheduled with the event getting under way at 8:00 am at the Hermosa Beach Pier. Event registration is available on-line at www.active.com.
Also this Sunday, Adia Cares hosts the symposium, Beginning the Conversation. This is a free community event where you will learn how to begin the discussion about planning for the care of an older loved one. Join industry experts to discover effective tools, techniques and the variety of resources available within your community. The symposium takes place at the Journey of Faith Church located at 1243 Artesia Boulevard in Manhattan Beach from 12:00 to 2:00 pm. For more information, call 310-370-0555.

DineLA Restaurant Week is a two-week dining event created to introduce diners to the vast array of restaurants in neighborhoods throughout LA County. The Neptunian Women’s Club presents Lights, Camera, Fundraiser! thisSaturday night, January 14th in celebration of the Manhattan Beach centennial – yes, Manhattan Beach turns 100 this year. The event runs from 6:00 to 9:00 pm and features live music by Feed the Kitty. Tickets are $75 per person and can be charged by phone at 310-977-8360. Tickets will not be sold at the door. Proceeds benefit education, scholarships and local children’s charities.
If you’re a metal head, you don’t want to miss the Rock-n-Roll GangStar pre-NAMM Festival & Jam this Saturday, January 14th starting at 3:00 pm and running until 1:30 am. The event takes place at Delzanos, Naja’s and Louie Luey’s on the International Boardwalk at Redondo Beach Pier. Great White will be playing along with 13 other hard rock and heavy metal bands. There’ll be an All-Star Jam, Rock n’ Roll Comedy Show, Rock n’ Roll Karaoke, food and drink specials and admission is free until 8:00 pm. (BTW - NAMM stands for National Association of Music Merchants whose trade show will be held at Anaheim Stadium this January 19 - 22.)
