Tonight at sundown all around the world will begin the FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS. Is it lighting the Christmas Tree? Is it lighting up the decorations on the lamp poles of the city? No, it is the first of the 8 day celebration of the centuries old holiday of Hanukkah.
In short, this day is in remembrance of the re-dedication of the temple in Jerusalem after it was destroyed by the madman Antiochus Epiphanies (his name means the visible god who lives among you). Antiochus waged a full scale war against the Jews who refused to deny their god and bow to another. A short war broke out against Antiochus and after 3 years of guerrilla warfare, the Jews were able to once again secure the destroyed temple and remove the idols from the Holy of Holies where pigs were sacrificed and human lives were lost.
Biblical dedication takes 8 days and it takes 8 days to make the purified oil that lit the lamps in the temple. When the Jews secured the temple, only one vial of oil was found...enough for one day. Legend is that this one vial of oil lasted 8 days, thus the miracle of lights.
We know that Jesus himself celebrated this feast, even though it is not one of the 7 named Feasts of God. In the gospel of John 10:22, we see that Jesus walked through the temple courts on the FEAST of DEDICATION. It was here that he made many declarations as to who he was.
This is an interesting event to study as it is replete with parallelisms of our Christian faith today.
In either event, to those who celebrate this important and wonderful event.....HAPPY HANUKKAH!!!
The NE Houston Growth sector continues it's expansion. I know that it is difficult to get your arms around some of this because the current area of expansion is not where many would expect it. The sprawl of metropolitan Houston continues to grow, thank goodness for all of us. The HWY 59 corridor construction is nearly completed from Humble to Splendora and prices and sales reflect the same.
Here is a quote from last weeks East Montgomery County Observer Newspaper
s
"The New Caney - Porter - Splendora area remans the county's strongest performer in closed sales, both in year to date increases (1.2%) and month to month (50%)
The year to date median price of homes jumped 7.5% to $148,400. Year to date total dollar volume ($65 million) increased a similar percentage."
We also continue to experience more movement to our area from out of state due to the reasonably good job market. I see a marked increase in inquiries and sales from people moving from the NW Houston area to the NE quadrant as more and more buyers are looking for an affordable rural setting.
This is exciting news for Kingwood, Humble, Atascocita and surrounding areas as everyone benefits from the development of these cities.
From the lap of luxury to the peace and serenity of the more rurual setting, give Edward a call!
Every year for the past 12, I am Humbled by a Vietnam Veteran. Without fail, the telephone will ring and an acquaintance named Edwin will call and say "Edward, thank you for your service to this country." I did serve for 4 years in the US Airforce during Vietnam but left unscathed, thank God. Edwin however did not as he lost a leg from the knee down to a carefully placed land mine. Our paths seldom cross since he lives in Minnesota and I in Houston..yet he calls every year.
Thank you to all who have paid such a high price and without complaint or bitterness continue to love this country and it's people. You and Edwin are true patriots!
Texas is blessed that is for sure as Humble Texas is targeted to get 5000 new jobs. The continuing development in our area is wonderful.
Channel 11 News reports that the company named CHI is planning to open a new appliance factory with products designed by former NASA scientists.
"We take anyone that walks in that's really looking for a job and if they've got the qualification then they've got a job with us," said CHI President Shauky Gulamani.
The company plans to hire 5,000 new employees over the next five years, and they're not just looking for factory workers. Gulamani said they're also hiring scientists, engineers, electricians and administrative support.
As for the new appliance line, President Shauky Gulamani said it will be state-of-the-art. Bacteria killing vacuum cleaners and to coffee makers that will not scorch the coffee.

Motorcycles and fast Cars will be the centerpiece of the new Liberty Motorsports Park in Liberty County just outside of Cleveland Texas. There is no doubt that the NE quadrant of Houston is destined for change.
More and more development continues to come to the area due to affordable land prices and close proximity to the Bush Intercontinental Airport.
