"Forget about the pricetag," Jesse J. proclaims in her pop tune. Do you or your clients sing that song? It would seem that in today's market, price is a deciding factor for several aspects of our everyday living. What is a pricetag anyway? Does the cost of something tell us the benefit attached to an item?
When you go to a restaurant, do you choose menu items completely by their dollar amount? If I were to guess, I would say, probably not. Choosing a menu item is based on the benefit of the meal. You order steak because you like the way it is cooked. You order the vegetables because they are healthy. You order the drinks of your choice because of their flavor and the dessert you crave. You base your order on your experience with the food, the restaurant, or by recommendation. If you are adventurous, you base that order on what you haven't tried, but with a benefit in mind. If you based your order solely on the price, you might be eating food that leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
When you purchase a new pair of shoes, do you choose the cheapest pair available regardless of the fit, style, practicality or likability? If I were to guess, I would say, probably not. Choosing the right pair of shoes, for the right occasion, for the durability, and for the sheer purpose of style doesn't mean that you walk out of the store in a pair of two sizes too small purple ballet flats when you walked into the store looking for sturdy work boots!
So, why choose or recommend the cheapest home inspector? I do not know. As we have discussed earlier, you wouldn't choose the cheapest food or cheapest shoe, because you wouldn't receive the best benefit. What's interesting is that dining and shoes are small decisions. Whereas, deciding on a new home, a new investment - now that's a life changing event! If the inspector doesn't scale every inch of the home from rooftop to crawlspace, then what exactly is being inspected and are you getting a good deal or just a ho-hum glance at things to push through the paperwork? You wouldn't live comfortably in a home that had mold spoors in the air, or high levels of radon, foundation settlement, roof leaks, electrical, plumbing or any other number of issues. A good home inspector will investigate everything and reveal everything in a clear, concise manner, because they care about their clients. They will follow up with clients and agents. They will build a relationship based on trust. Now there is a benefit!
Making decisions will always be a part of our lives. When we are in a position to help others make informed decisions, we should give our best effort to have their best interest in mind. Don't recommend a cheap restaurant, an ill-fitting pair of cheap ballet flats, or a cheap home inspection team. They can all three leave a bad taste in your mouth, be the improper fit, and end up costing you more in the long run! Forget about the price tag... know the benefits.

Picture it - Douglasville, Georgia, December 2011 - The inspectors are providing there usual detailed and friendly service to a wonderful couple and their well established agent. For the most part, this inspection has been busines as usual. The appliances have all been noted, models and serials recorded for RecallChek, the roof has been walked, the outlets tested... the list here can go on and on. For the stories sake and the sake of losing an audience, we will now descend the well crafted steps into the lower regions of the home to examine the underbelly, because this is where the meat and potatoes of the day resides.
Peering into the unknown the Atlanta Home Inspectors are greeted by a vibrant tapestry of blue and red. A work of art so stunning that both are rendered speechless (which is saying alot if you know these two). Behold the radiant beauty -- literally it is Radiant-- flexing and stretching without corrosion. Transferring heat in such a manner, that less time and less energy is expelled. A low maintenance alternative to copper and an organized distribution of hot and cold water.
It's true the Europeans discovered PEX in the 1970's. It is used not only for water distribution, but also as a heating mechanism underneath the slab of the home or in walkways. PEX plumbing has become more popular in the US recently, since it's earlier introduction in the 1980's. In the instances of heating a room, an oxygen barrier would also need to be present.
Meanwhile, back at the basement, awe-stricken, smitten even, the inspectors cameras flash, hoping to capture this darling starlet before she disappears behind her protective walls. "It isn't everyday that we get to see the beauty and craftsmanship of a system like this," I heard the Atlanta Home Inspector say. We are all lucky, then to be able to ogle the image captured on digital film. We hope you enjoy it as much as the inspectors did!

I have to admit the kitchen isn’t always my favorite room. Some days preparing a meal seems like such a treacherous or impossible feat. Especially when a hectic schedule doesn’t permit much preparation time for a hearty meal. Then, there are the days when I get adventurous and can’t wait to try a new recipe, hoping that it will become a new favorite. I have only fixed this delicious stew once, but it was quite yummy on an Autumn evening. If you are a fan of curry, you will like this one. We didn’t add the cream, you can always substitute with sour cream, if you wish! You may also substitute lamb for the chicken. Enjoy!

How many people "Like" your business page on Facebook? Do you tune in everyday, eagerly anticipating a sudden explosion of new interest in you and what you have to say? Are YOU what everyone is talking about, sharing or leaving comments to? If you are satisfied with your Facebook following and do not wish to attract anymore people to your page, then stop reading this blog right now!!
I was recently stunned by a headline, which insisted that a well known business added over 75,000 new page "likes" in just 8 days. Why this fascinates me, is that I am always trying to find a topic to generate new "likers". Envisioning a stunning editorial, written to near perfection, I clicked the headline to read this magnificent work of literary fortitude. So, imagine my surprise when I didn't find an exceptionally entertaining, thought provoking or even helpful maintenance tip or two.
What, I found, was the genius workings of a Zillow laureate.Zillow. com is a real estate community, for those of you, who are not familiar. Listings and general information can be obtained from their website. Their Facebook contains the usual business page banter and quotes on a daily basis. So, what did they do that was so amazing? Was it their Tuesday side by side pictures that allow you to pick which house you like better? Was it their response to the loving mom to be who is expecting twins soon? Was it that free house they are giving away? What? Back up. What was that last one...?
That's right, Zillow has teamed up with Pulte Homes to give away a $350,000 home. The only way to enter the contest is through their FaceBook page. If you were sold like 75,000 plus other's on this deal, then head on over and "like" their page for your chance to enter. (Unless of course you work for them or Pulte or live in Alaska,Hawaii, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, Rhode Island or Puerto Rico.)
So, what have we learned from this? You offer people something they want at the welcoming price of FREE and they will "LIKE" you for life. (or at least until the end of November when the sweepstakes ends!)
Hmmm.... Lets see what we can give away....

Spawning from a tree, whose name means "the fire of Zeus", the persimmon, a yellow-orange to red-orange fruit, is so revered in Mitchell Indiana that an annual festival occurs in its' honor. High in glucose and balanced proteins, persimmons are best when eaten baked. However, pies, cakes, syrups, and jams have all been made and exhibited in the annual festival. The secret to the flavor is finding the perfect ripeness. The perfect ripeness does not come from the fruits hanging on the tree, rather from the ones that have fallen to the ground.
Before moving South, my husband and I lived in Mitchell, Indiana where every September, a reunion occurs. Amidst, the mushy fleshiness of the persimmons and their various recipes in Southern Indiana, a parade, carnival rides, musical acts and the coronation of the Persimmon Queen all occur within a 7 day span. One can stand on downtown Mainstreet, gaze NorthWest and see a painting of the revered persimmon on the city's water tower. A child doesn't grow up in that town without tasting persimmon something or other... and ours had the honor of persimmon ice cream. Bear in mind, this is the same town that famed astronaut Virgil "Gus" Grissom grew up in... in fact you can tour his boyhood home and also view artifacts from his NASA days at the Spring Mill State Park.
However, the festival is not just a festival. People who have not seen one another for at least a year or sometimes several, mark their calendars for this event. Vendors, classmates, neighbors, relatives, and those who come to visit their loved one's graves are all a part of this Homecoming. It isn't just about the good times or the bad times. It is also about all the times in between. The town just chooses an unlikely fruit to sandwich all that history and memory between. We were lucky to share that experience for a few years of our lives.
If you are ever in Southern Indiana, you might take a jaunt to Spring Mill State Park, and if you are in town the second to thrid week in September, you might just want to check out the annual Persimmon Festival. Until then, enjoy this Indiana Persimmon Recipe! ~ Jennifer the IHI Home Inspections Office Girl
