This year's run through Hocking Hills State Park, centerpiece of southeast Ohio's famous vacation destination region, attracted a record-setting 757 participants to this growing annual event hosted by the Hocking Hills Tourism Association.. Runners came from 16 states, including Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and West Virginia (and of course, Ohio). Pre-registrants included runners between of all ages, from 7 to 81.
500 runners preregistered for the race, with 149 people signing up for the 5k version, 136 for the 10k run, 158 for the 20k contest, 32 for the 40k course, and 25 for the grueling 60k route. Running through the woods and hills presents a significantly unique challenge, to say the least, but listening to folks at the finish describe how much they really enjoyed it was truly ear and eye-opening. Also more than interesting was seeing the various types and sizes of those who took this challenge.
The 2008 Indian Run drew 635 runners; this year's total, along with a generous helping of their friends and family to cheer them on, underscores recent upticks in annual visitors to the Hocking Hills Region. Find more information and results at http://www.1800hocking.com.

As more folks consider buying and then offering their vacation home for short term rentals, in order to help defray finance and operating costs, there are a few significant items to keep in mind. Some might also consider branching out a bit and managing others' rental properties as business begins to look better and brighter.
While there are various things to consider in each case, two are of primary importance. The first is to simply consult with your CPA or other qualified financial advisor to review the full ramifications when tax time comes. The amount of days you use and rent a vacation home has significant impact on what you can and can't do when it comes to deductions and depreciation. The next questions cover Ohio Real Estate Law. If you're going to talk to prospective property managers who might in any way be hired to handle funds related to renting or leasing property, you should first ask them with which Ohio licensed real estate brokerage they're affiliated. That information should be fully disclosed and prominently displayed, by the way, also according to Ohio law. Managing the rentals of properties that one does not own requires an Ohio real estate license; Ohio real estate agents must also be affiliated with a real estate broker (or qualify to create their own brokerage). Brokerages are also subject to specific rules and regulations regarding property management. A white paper covering Property Management law in Ohio can be found at http://tinyurl.com/OHpropertymanagement.

This year's annual Lancaster Festival was certainly weather-challenged, but the crowds turned out as they always have for the past twenty-five years. Early birds for the closing concert and fireworks display, August 1 at the Ohio University Lancaster outdoor stage, were dumped on by Mother Nature who followed her opening act with darkening skies, but everyone kept their spirits up and dinners dry for the performance by Lee Ann Womack. Next year's festival dates are July 21-31, 2010....we'll see you there! Right after the rains....
A headline performance...
And another spectacular display!
