When you're touring the Hocking Hills during the upcoming high seasons, make a stop in downtown Logan for plenty of colorful reasons. As part of "Logan In Bloom" (spurred by the national America In Bloom non-profit organization), Logan High School students have created flags of varied flowers to help add color and character to downtown Logan. The flags were auctioned at the spring opening festivities of Logan in Bloom, and will greet local residents as well as visitors to southeast Ohio's famous Hocking Hills Region...with Logan's city slogan being "Gateway to the Hocking Hills." Funds raised by the auction go to both the school's art department, along with Logan in Bloom.
Also in the news, the Logan Town Center non-profit group has recently applied for a National Historic Landmark designation for the downtown, along with preparing a wonderful walking tour of the designated area. You can download a copy of the tour brochure at the Logan Town Center web site, or pick one up at one of the Hocking Hills Visitors Centers in Logan or Laurelville, operated by the Hocking Hills Tourism Association.
And by the way, if you're looking for a great place for lunch or dinner downtown, we can highly and personally recommend The Sandstone Restaurant. Our new Logan-Hocking Hills real estate professionals group (naming is in progress....) meets there for breakfast each month, and we're certain the members will second that recommendation! We shot the photos above on our way in to dine at the Sandstone, matter of fact....
More and more folks are choosing the Hocking Hills, along with the nearby private resort community of Hide-A-Way Hills (HAH), for vacation getaways. (we're in the process of updating our tour of Hide-A-Way Hills) We'll be happy to tell you more about why that is....and we'd also suggest you stop in for a meal at the HAH Lodge and Restaurant.

After showing one of our log vacation listings nearby, went to the Lake White area south of Waverly, Ohio to take some photos of the recreational opportunities for a client. Found a most interesting mix of classic and newer lake community homes, and discovered one of those must-stop-and-see timeless lakefront dining spots....the since-the-1930's Lake White Club. You won't feel like a stranger there for more than a few moments after stepping inside and through the old log cabin (logs from the 1820's) entry...(thanks, Audrey), and the table side service is as attentive and helpful as you'd ever want (thanks, Nancy). Tried one of the house specialties, roast turkey, and would certainly order it again. The one-of-a-kind coleslaw, fresh hot rolls, and broth entrees are also well beyond the ordinary. We'll be back to try some of that famous chicken, along with the filet and broiled orange roughy. And while taking a few photos after dining, one of the Lake's longtime residents (thanks, Bob) came up and introduced himself, explaining how he'd been there when the dam was built.

Maybe it's a result of spending far too much time online, but tonight's read of the Columbus (Ohio) Board of Realtors' "In Contract" monthly magazine for April prompted quite a laugh. Under the MLS News section, CBR members are warned that a photo (ONE...can you imagine!) is now a requirement for all listings....if an agent posts a listing without a photo, there's a $50 fine, and the MLS will then take a photo for the listing in question for between $10-15. And an agent has only 15 days after the listing entry to add that ONE photo....such a burden, huh?
And fortunately there's an overall out....a seller can request that no photo appear in the MLS....gee, that's a relief...
But maybe a chuckle is inappropriate, given that there are still agents out there in real estate land who can't or simply don't provide photos for their listings......
As part of a press tour organized by the Hocking Hills Tourism Association, eleven travel writers representing magazines such as Better Homes & Gardens, Country Living, AAA Horizons, AAA Home & Away, Planet Boston, The Connection, and Indy's Child / Midwest Parenting Publications will enjoy dinner at the Hide-A-Way Hills Lodge and Microbrewery on Friday, May 1, at 7pm. Some of the scribes are also freelancers with their own Web sites, who also offer their work to other periodicals and sites.
Hide-A-Way Hills members are also certainly encouraged to dine at the lodge that evening, and of course the public is also invited to sample the great food, drink, and service at the lodge.
There's lots of great (and green) things happening in southeast Ohio's famous and scenic Hocking Hills Region, along with Hide-A-Way Hills.....as HAH prepares for its 50th anniversary in 2011. Come see for yourself with an up-close-and-personal tour...boating, fishing, golf, pool, tennis, stables, new playground, shooting range, airport, beach (w/new docks), north park, community shelters, and much more!
By the way, Hide-A-Way Hills covers portions of both Hocking County and Fairfield County in Ohio, and has long been a great gateway to the Hocking Hills....for vacation homes and year-round homes.
