Viewing scopes, guided tours, and interpretive signage all enhance the viewing experience. During the height of the breeding season, May-July, the islands are alive with hundreds of nesting great egrets, great blue herons, double-crested cormorants, black-crowned night herons, and cattle egrets. Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Nature Preserve is open to the public for bird viewing every Wednesday and Saturday from May through mid-August. Visitors can also enjoy the Lake Renwick Bikeway, a 2.9 mile asphalt trail suitable for all non-motorized, non-equestrian use. The Bikeway is open year round and can be accessed at the Renwick Road entrance to the preserve.
