The Central Valley of Costa Rica was my home for 25 years. In Costa Rica I owned and managed restaurants. In 1992 I moved to Manuel Antonio on the Pacifiic Coast of Costa Rica where I began my real estate career, specializing in beach properties.

For sun and fun, the county can't be beat. The beach lies between the Atlantic and the Indian River Lagoon, offering endless water-related activities. Fishing, sailing, windsurfing, and boating are a few options. Rent your own boat or sit back and let someone else do the work: Take a river cruise and watch the manatees and dolphins at play, or linger over a dinner cruise. Learn all about the lagoon ecosystem at the Environmental Learning Center on Wabasso Island.

The miles of calm waters, protected from the Atlantic Ocean by the barrier islands, provide residents and tourists with many types of boating opportunities. If you don't own a boat, deep sea fishing boats can be chartered along the Indian River County coastline. Leisure cruises operate out of both Vero Beach and Sebastian. And for those who like airboating, Stick Marsh in the northwest corner of Indian River County provides just the opportunity. Canoes and kayaks can also be rented from various places including areas around the Sebastian Inlet Park. Sebastian River Marina and Boatyard features a full-service marina, boatyard and yacht services.

If you have a boat and it is not moored at a marina, there are places in Indian River County that provide free launching ramps and parking spaces:

Riverside Park, MacWilliam Park, East Oslo Road, Round Island Park, Sebastian Yacht Club on Indian River Drive, Dale Wimbrow Park, Donald MacDonald Park, Wabasso Causeway, Fellsmere Grade, Blue Cypress Lake (Route 60 west of Vero Beach), and St. Johns Marsh - Barney Green (CR 512 west to Fellsmere).

Flying In?
Vero Beach and Sebastian each have muncipal airports that are open to general aviation traffic. If you are flying in by private plane, please don't depend on high density or skyscrapers to guide your way. More likely you'll just see the sea, the river and lots of tree tops!
The Vero Beach Municipal Airport received the 1995 General Aviation Airport of the Year Award from the Florida Department of Transportation. The winning airport is selected based upon accomplishments in the areas of airport facilities improvements, airfield safety and security, aesthetics, and management. Commercial air service is available from Melbourne, (located 25 miles north of Sebastian), Orlando or West Palm Beach.
