If you are moving to Tampa, or looking for a home in the Tampa Real Estate Market, and you have children, finding the right school will be at the top of your “to do” list! Hillsborough County is the 8th largest school district in the Country and has many top-rated schools, both Nationwide and Statewide.
Each street address has a specific “school district” assigned to it, but another option to consider is one of the many “Magnet Schools” available at all grade levels. I am going to chat about several of the most popular magnet schools over the next few weeks, to educate my readers, and those considering a move to Tampa, about the incredible educational opportunities for your children outside of the “mainstream” curriculum.
I deal with a heavily “International” clientele. Many of my clients have bi-lingual children and want to immerse them in a curriculum that is focused on languages and international studies. I, personally, studied at a French elementary school and later at a university in Switzerland. While studying Russian History in French may not appeal to everyone, it is EXACTLY the kind of challenge that many students thrive upon!
Hillsborough County offers the Interational Baccalaureate programme at the Elementary, Middle and High School levels. Today, I will introduce you to MacFarlane Park Elementary, which offers the IB program at the primary level, focused on ages 3–12. Located on MacDill Avenue, close to South Tampa, MacFarlane Park Elementary is rated in the top 1% of all Florida School. You can find more information about their program here.
Hillsborough County offers Magnet Programs in Math, Science, Arts, Performing Arts, International Studies and more. Before you enroll your child, consider all of the options available to you. To be considered for a magnet program, there is an application process and a spring deadline for the following school year. This is the time to start investigating your options for the 2009–2010 school year.

Tampa summers are HOT and HUMID and enjoying a refreshing drink, while relaxing by the pool, in your backyard, is a great way to cool off after a long, hot day! I always counsel buyers to choose a “pool home” over a “non-pool home”, for resale value!
Recent sales in the Tampa Real Estate Market show the “value” of a “pool” increases with the value of the home. You can see the percentage of homes sold in 2008, with, and without pools in various price ranges.
Price range Homes Sold Percentage of “Pool Homes”
$350–500K 3351 63%
$501–750K 1543 72%
Over 750K 1212 82%
You can see, as the price for a Single Family Home in the Tampa Real Estate Market climbs, so does the desire for a pool! Given a choice between two homes...choose the one with the pool!
Isn’t this a FABULOUS pool? The asking price for this home in an exclusive, gated
subdivision in Tampa? Over 20 Million!

Half the fun of moving to Tampa is finding all of the unique and interesting restaurants available. If you are moving from one of the northern states, chances are, you will welcome the opportunity
for a little dining alfresco ! Its no secret, Tampa summers are HOT and HUMID, so finding a cool spot for outdoor dining gets a bit tricky!
One of my favorite places to eat, Chez Bryce, a little French Bistro on Davis Islands, in South Tampa, has made some changes to make the patio dining experience tres magnifique ! I have written about Chez Bryce many times, but it just keeps getting better. Bryce has just added mister fans all around the patio dining
area! I love thema cool breeze is always flowing, despite the heat and humidity!
Then, there is the guitar player... strumming sweet melodies every night! This is as good as it gets! Summer specials are also very popular! Tuesdays are busy with a Moules Frites specialthe popular french dish of Mussels with French Fries, along with a glass of the house wine is just $15.00. The mussels are delicately prepared in a white wine, butter, garlic and herb sauce. And the frites well, you haven’t tasted anything quite like them, since your last trip to France!
Wednesdays you can feast on Bryces Mediterranean Grill , or join him for lunch for Dejeuner a Deux a daily lunch special for two at under $16.00! Try some of my personal favorites: Cod Beignets, Clams with Chorizo, Roasted Pork and anything with Duck Confit! I have a favorite table, too, but, please dont sit therechances are I am on my way for lunch, or dinner!

The Latest News about Living in Tampa, and The Tampa Real Estate Market, every day on the Real Estate Sizzle! A review by Michael Nemcik, my first guest blogger and local foodie!
When I first heard that Downtown Tampa was opening a new wine bar I was not an early adopter. I usually choose to enjoy South Tampa, as it seems to have so much more to offer. Other than Fly Bar, there isnt much reason to venture north of Kennedy. When a reputable source of wine knowledge told me he was involved, I thought that I would have to try it. I am a big fan of wine bars, mostly because of The Wine Room in Winter Park, Orlando which I have been visiting for quite some time.
Taps, located adjacent to SkyPoint tries to be a wine bar / lounge / night club at the same time. It features a large selection of artisan and craft beer on the left hand side, with push button wine selections on the right. I have been three times, compelled by friends to visit mostly. It seems more attention is paid to the beer than the wine, as the selection neither changed nor grew in the times I have visited. The soft, Miami style couches with a distinct lounge feel are usually setup outside, sometimes packed and roped off. Breitling watches and spray on tans make you feel like you are at the hot spot.
The first time I went I believe XM radio was playing some uncharacteristic rock, and the sun glaring through the naked windows gave me a micro tan, as I sipped my micro brew. The lovely waitress proved to be just expensive good looks when she guessed on two of the five cheeses arriving on our lack luster cheese plate, one of which was uninspired cheddar.
Bottom line, go for drinks. Taps is like a welcomed launch/landing pad where one can begin on a voyage to Ybor City or Channel Side, or finish up with a soft red treasure.
