Snowing again in Allyn, Belfair & the Peninsula

More snow! What a winter for that white stuff falling from the sky. Here in Allyn, today's snow looks more like what is normal around here - it will snow all day and by tonight there won't be any on the ground. Yes, I can sit here at my desk at the Windermere Peninsula Property office and write this posting while sipping my warm cup of tea with the comfort of knowing the highway will be clear when it's time to go home. But what a show for now - it's coming down like crazy. I find a certain excitement. maybe a child's delight in watching the snow come down with such intensity. It sets off many happy memories for me of sledding down the hill at Tiger Lake, building snowmen, throwing snowballs with my grandson, and just walking down a snow covered path on a moonlit night and enjoying the hushed quiet.

Snow isn't very advantageous to the selling of realestate, unless you live in a ski area. It's a better time for planning and making calls than out showing. That's just what I plan to do today. As an artist, I find the snow covered landscape to be a totally new subject. The wetland scenes along the trails in Belfair at the Theler Wetland Center take on a whole new look. I am attaching a couple of my pastel paintings from my Theler Wetland Series that were completed after a snowfall several years ago.

what the heck? I've just been tagged by Valerie Spaulding~now it's your turn

What the heck is non-meme anyway? I had been flagged and tagged. I was concerned. I asked Valerie what this was all about and she re-assured me that it was nothing serious, only a game. The object of the game is to select a book, and copy text from a certain page, and then tag 5 more people to do the same. That doesn't sound so difficult. I'll try and follow the rules. Here they are for you to follow next:

1. Grab the nearest book.

2. Open to page 56.

3. Find the 5th sentence.

4. Post the text of the next 2 to 5 sentences.

5. Don't dig for you favorite book, the cool book or the intellectual one. Pick the closest.

6. Tag 5 people to do the same.

(and the Bible is not allowed)

Okay, as I look around all I see are magazines. Lots of art magazines that I read, and lots of car magazines my husband treasures. Next, I begin looking in the book shelves over my computer. I see lots of picture books on Kauai, Molokai, Art, Concept Cars, but no text on page 56. Ahh, I think I might have found the one. It's called, ORGANIZING FROM THE INSIDE OUT. The author is Jane Morgenstern.

Here's the text from page 56, beginning with sentence #6:

"Most people either dramatically overestimate or drastically underestimate the time required.

If you overestimate how long a project will take, you're likely to procrasinate forever and never get started. Let's say it's actually a three-day project but you've estimated three months. The job will seem hopelessly large, and you'll say, "Forget it! It's not even worth starting, I'll never get through it all!"

On the other hand, saying, "I'll tackle this Saturday morning before I go to the beach," absurdly underestimates the amount of time almost any organizing project will take."

Strange, I wonder why I found this towards the back of the shelf? I guess if you were to see the backseat of my car you would understand. I do a lot of open houses, and unfortunately these days there are not a lot of visitors. So, I go prepared with books, magazines, flyers, computer, etc. My car is the permanent home for most of it.

This is great advice to share with our Sellers. We want to showcase their house, not their belongings. An organized looking home is much more appealing to a Buyer, and much easier for us to attain good photos for flyers and the internet. It's never to early for a Seller to get organized.

Anyway, time to play tag.

Diana Miller, you're it. I,m sure you have some books close by - better censor the text first.

Ryan Lowe, consider yourself tagged.

Beth Riebli, any good books laying around? Tag, you're it.

Josh Murphy, welcome and you've been tagged.

Brooke Ross, you asked to be contacted...so, you're tagged.

Enjoy.....it can be fun and you find the most interesting things.

Local Happenings~Art and Entertainment

What's there to do? A question heard over and over. Before moving to a new area or even after having lived in an area for awhile, you might ask this question. If you enjoy music and the arts, I would suggest checking out Collective Visions Gallery in downtown Bremerton at the corner of 4th & Pacific AVE. The gallery is celebrating its 13th Anniversary this month, November 2008. Each year it seems to get bigger and better. The gallery participates in an artwalk held the 1st Friday of each month from 5 - 8 pm. There is always something new to see, and many of the artists are there to talk to. Visit the gallery's website for a list of events and participating artists. www.collectivevisions.com

Another unique feature of the gallery is the Concert Series. Musicians ranging from the Blues, to Jazz, and Classical, all are professional and many are internationally known. The concert series runs from September through June. The concert is usually held on the 3rd Friday of the month from 7 - 9 pm. The Gallery provides an intimate setting with great musicians performing, and it's reasonably priced and very close to where you live. Why not check it out? Here's the schedule:

November 21 Jamie Sieber **Electric cellist, vocalist and composer

December 19 Carolyn Caruso **Vocalist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist

January 16 Pearl Django **The premier hot club jazz style group

February 20 Patrick and Sophia Stoyanovich **A father and daughter piano and violin recital

March 20 Judith Alexandra "Alex" Miller **Classic mezzo soprano sings German lieder
