Palm Beach had a year-round population of 10,468, with an estimated seasonal population of 30,000.
The city is served by Palm Beach International Airport and Amtrak, as well as Tri-Rail - all located in West Palm Beach connecting Palm Beach to Miami. Public transportation is available through Palm Tran, offering several routes within the town of Palm Beach and connecting with the rest of the county.
Private vehicles and taxis are the most common means of transportation in Palm Beach. However, bicycles have become a popular transport on the island. Most areas have no bicycle trails, so safe and comfortable travel is not always assured. The Lake Trail, exclusively for pedestrian and bike traffic, extends from Royal Palm Way in the south up to the north end of the island. The trail follows the edge of the Lake Worth Lagoon (part of the intercoastal waterway) except for a section between the Flagler Museum and the Biltmore Condominiums, where the trail follows the streets. Another break occurs to pass around the Sailfish Yacht Club in the north end of the island. In the southern end of the island, south of Sloan's Curve and north of Lantana Road is a two-mile long, relatively wide pedestrian path that is popular with walkers, runners and bikers alike.
In Palm Beach 67% of commuters drive to work. In the town people prefer to walk or ride bike.

With the grandeur of an Italian Renaissance palace by the sea--and the intimate comfort of an inn--The Breakers is almost synonymous with the Palm Beach experience. On 140 oceanfront acres, this classic turn-of-the-century hotel has a heritage deeply rooted in Palm Beach history, seen throughout the hotel in antique hand-painted and cherub-accented coffered ceilings, ornate tapestries and imposing carved-stone mantels that encompass fireplaces large enough to stand inside. Founded more than a century ago in 1896 by Henry Morrison Flagler himself and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Breakers, once a wooden structure, has been updated by a recently completed 10-year, $145 million expansion and renovation.
An annual Mobil Five Star Award and AAA Five Diamond Award recipient, the hotel has 560 guest rooms and 57 suites, including two Presidential Suites, two Imperial Suites and the exclusive Flagler Club Concierge Level, which allows guests to live as royalty--surrounded by every conceivable amenity facilitated by a concierge team that will place a specific flower or a favorite magazine in your room before your personal escort there.
As if you weren't spoiled enough, the Mediterranean-style Oceanfront Spa and Beach Club translates the relaxation and the serenity of the sea to 17 private rooms, massage, body wraps, scrubs or aromatherapy treatments. Further pampering is available in the full-service salon, an oversized oceanfront Jacuzzi--and through private outdoor massages along the beach. An oceanfront fitness center, four pools--including a three-lane adult lap pool--10 lighted tennis courts, 36 holes of championship golf, and outdoor yoga and tai chi overlooking the Atlantic are sure to revive your spirits after a long day of relaxation.
The Breakers offers seven restaurants and cocktail bars including The Circle Dining Room offering breakfast and Sunday brunch with a view of the sea. Jackets are required for a romantic and formal evening at L'Escalier for modern French cuisine, and the Flagler Steakhouse offers hand-chosen USDA Prime steaks and chops. The Seafood Bar offers an oceanfront raw bar, with a series of saltwater aquariums that serve as the bar's countertop. The dining and entertainment venues go on and on, as do The Breakers' on-site shops which include Polo Ralph Lauren, Giorgio's Men's and Ladies', and more.
Beachside parties, sophisticated dinners, executive meetings and events of any size are accommodated by 45,000 square feet of indoor function space and 20,000 square feet of outdoor function space including seven boardrooms, ballrooms and the Oceanfront Conference Center.

Upholding the lifestyles of the rich and famous in Palm Beach is the Brazilian Court. With its classic Mediterranean style and serene atmosphere, this boutique hotel, built in the peak of the Florida land boom in 1926, offers guests incomparable privacy and comfort. The ambiance is at once intimate and breezy, with a full view from the lobby's wall of French doors of the hotel's flower-filled signature courtyard and historic fountain.
Moments from the Atlantic Ocean beaches, the Brazilian Court is nestled on a palm-lined street within a tranquil residential neighborhood just steps north of Worth Avenue, and a short distance from an array of famed restaurants, galleries and museums. Its 108 rooms and suites feature vivid yellows, floral fabrics and soft lighting, and all have been modernized to include a custom kitchenette or wet bar, coffee maker, hair dryers, VCRs and cable television--with access to the hotel's beauty salon, heated swimming pool, fitness center and spa services. An attentive concierge team will help you practice your conversational Spanish, French, Italian or German, or secure your reservations at Palm Beach's upscale restaurants.
A member of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide and a winner of the Five Star Diamond Award from the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences, the Brazilian Court also is home to the DiRoNA Award-winning restaurant, Chancellor, which serves international cuisine and Florida specialties such as potato-crusted snapper or littleneck clams and mussels for dinner, and also serves lunch and breakfast. For an afternoon salad or an evening dining under the stars, guests also can enjoy the tropical Fountain Courtyard--or stop in the classic Windsor Lounge for a dry martini.
Upscale social events and meetings from client presentations to a college graduation party--or simply coffee--for up to 200 people are facilitated through six dedicated rooms and two two-story town houses with private boardrooms, full office services and sleeping accommodations designed to meet the needs of meeting planners and executives.

About eight miles south of glamorous Worth Avenue on six tropically landscaped beachfront acres, the Four Seasons Resort has a grandeur that is tastefully subtle. One step through the tall glass doors into the hotel lobby--with its cool, creamy beige and taupe marble floors, massive columns and towering floral arrangements--and you'll know you've arrived at one of the most luxurious resorts on the island.
Each of the resort's 210 guest rooms and 13 suites--many of which have recently been redecorated in classic American style with pure white duvets and warm floral accents--have Atlantic or garden vistas. On the top floor, each of the 1,370-square-foot Orchid and Hibiscus Suites present panoramic seascape views from Juliet balconies, and the marble master baths are complete with a cordless phone and television.
A 6,000-square-foot spa featuring traditional treatments such as facials, manicures and pedicures, as well as modern pampering services like aromatherapy and mud and seaweed wraps, is sure to invoke a soothing and rejuvenating experience. A couple's treatment room also is available for spa-going twosomes who seek to share indulgences such as the Palm Beach Massage--a head-to-toe treatment that uses anti-stress aromatherapy, a scalp treatment, various massage techniques and heat packs for 80 minutes of heaven.
Further distinguishing the Four Seasons experience is its AAA Five Diamond Award-winning dining room, The Restaurant. As elegant as it is sumptuous, The Restaurant serves southeastern regional cuisine prepared by its famed executive chef, Hubert Des Marais, whose work is complemented by a nightly pianist and a divine Champagne bar. The Ocean Bistro, with lightly canopied wicker furniture and floral prints, serves Mediterranean cuisine and overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. The Atlantic Bar and Grill offers poolside favorites like salads and sandwiches for lunch, as well as tropical drinks. The Living Room lobby lounge offers nightly entertainment, gourmet hors d'oeuvres, a romantic fireplace and evening cocktails.
The Four Seasons offers 22,000 square feet of banquet meeting space that can accommodate groups of up to 600 in style for executive board meetings or enchanting dinner galas.
The Chesterfield

|
A landmark hotel built in 1926, The Chesterfield is more like an exclusive English club than a hotel. Its Colonial charm, unique furnishings and attention to detail make for the ultimate Palm Beach experience--just a stone's throw from Worth Avenue. One of seven prestigious Red Carnation Hotels that dot London, Geneva and Palm Beach, this boutique hotel has a Five Diamond rating from the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences, Four Diamond Award from AAA and Mobil Four Star award. A complimentary glass of sherry greets each guest in the English country manor house-style lobby, which receives its guests at a reception desk, rather than a counter, for a most personal welcome.
A red carnation is worn by all staff--who serve traditional afternoon tea wherever you choose--be it lounging on the overstuffed leather sofa in the Fireside Library, or chatting with friends in one of the sitting room's floral-print wingback chairs. Across the corridor from the library, choose a fine cigar from the walk-in humidor and sip a full-bodied port in Churchill's Cigar Room, a room with the DNA of an English men's club.
Small details--books to read, potted plants, a desk stocked with stationery--in The Chesterfield's 43 deluxe guest rooms and 11 luxurious suites further its boutique hotel atmosphere. Each of the suites is uniquely themed in decor from the leopard jungle suite to one done completely in blues, and each is in high demand from repeat guests such as Tommy Hilfiger (who prefers the expansive penthouse), Margaret Thatcher and Bob Mackie.
For nightly entertainment and an eclectic mix of English and European cuisine, the Chesterfield is home to the Leopard Lounge and Restaurant--known for its black and red motif, accenting leopard-skin patterned carpet, menus and dishware. The ceiling, hand- painted by the late artist Lino Mario, is more than a little naughty--in decadent Palm Beach spirit--with saucy cherubs, pan pipe-toting satyrs, sexy women and leering goats floating overhead.
For Champagne receptions, engagement celebrations or professional conferences, the Leopard Room can accommodate groups of up to 100 guests. The full-service Business Center offers Internet access, as well as fax and phone use for business travelers. The Poolside Pavilion Room has room for a 60-guest banquet, theater or conference, and the Fireside Library is a popular spot for meetings and teas for up to 20 attendees.
The Ritz-Carlton, Palm Beach
100 S. Ocean Blvd., Manalapan

Look no further than The Ritz-Carlton, Palm Beach for a relaxed yet luxurious setting. Located directly on the ocean, the resort recently invested more than $60-million in this captivating resort. The Mobil Five Star hotel is recognized for personalized service, exquisite accommodations and as the destination of choice for those looking for memory making experiences. Where do the locals go? Often the question heard by most Concierge - well the answer is The Ritz-Carlton, Palm Beach. The addition of an oceanfront Terrace and Stir Bar have created a magnet to the firepit - glowing at night, it's the gathering spot for both Palm Beachers and locals for sushi, light bites and creative cocktails.
Dining is surely a draw here with three very distinct restaurants. Temple Orange is open for all three meals and is a refreshingly modern choice for Italian/Mediterranean cuisine - sit indoors or dine al fresco; Breeze offers fresh seafood, salads, sandwiches and frozen drinks on the ocean's edge until sunset; Specialty restaurant Angle is the very chic and haute locals favorite where mouth-watering seafood and prime cut meat dishes of regional influence are enjoyed at cozy curved banqets or at the lively underlit onyx communal table - be sure to choose one of the wines in the 840 bottle wine wall.
Other highlights of this oceanfront playground run from romance-inducing to family friendly. How? Let's start with families. Ritz Kids programs are known around the world, but here the Under-the-Sea themed "AquaNuts" sets the tone. Full, half and evening sessions allow families to have flexible planning. The teens program called Coast embraces a "state of mind" - meaning nothing too organized. Teens can opt to play guitar hero and video games, or partake in a photoshoot ending in an editing session. For the music oriented - the DJ sessions turn a parent's memory of mix tapes to club-level sophistication. Coast by Night gives these teens a place to mingle with others while mom and dad enjoy dinner and drinks together.
For the romantic-minded, oceanfront spa treatments with bathing rituals, private intimate cabana dinners or in-room dining set the tone for a magical evening. During the day, the Tranquility pool and its couple's chaises make watching the arcing fountains a pleasure.
This resort features all private balconies for each room that offer views of the Atlantic, and/or the resort's lush courtyards. Those in the know reserve a Lanai Terrace room with an extended cabana-like setting. All suites here face directly at the ocean from every square foot - including the oversized bathtubs - nice view! Of course they feature a warm atmosphere, rich furnishings, oversized bathrooms, flatscreen tv and dvd player. The Ritz-Carlton Club Level is exclusively accessible - a lounge features five culinary presentations - all delivered by concierge ladies and gentlemen who add a genuine touch of extra personalized service.
Expect to find all the exciting watersports here, tennis fans have their choice of three tennis courts with a pro on-site, and golfers enjoy special privileges on award-winning golf courses - Worth Avenue is a short drive away.

Snugly between the cool Atlantic and Worth Avenue's to-die-for boutiques is The Colony, an unpretentious yet elegant enclave in the heart of Palm Beach. Once a seasonal retreat for dignitaries such as the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and a vacation destination for A-list clientele such as Marjorie Merriwether Post, the former King Hussein of Jordan and George Hamilton, its 67 guest rooms, 13 suites, three penthouse suites and seven private two-bedroom villas (coveted by repeat anniversary guests) have been completely renovated and redecorated in British Colonial style. Earth-colored fabrics in muted greens and beiges, dark wood tones, marble bathrooms, 310-thread-count, feather-filled duvets and tropical plants provide all the comforts of home--with a tropical flavor.
You won't need a car to enjoy a day in the ocean or strolling through the Avenue's intimate vias--but car and bicycle rentals are on hand to explore the island's grandeur. In the rear courtyard, a heated pool-- in the shape of the sunshine state--is complete with bright, tropical-colored towels freshly set at each poolside lounge chair. Staff in Ralph Lauren attire serve Continental cuisine with hints of Indonesia and the Caribbean at Polo, where plentiful cocktails are served from a dark, polished-wood bar accented in brass, and a wall of doors opened for al fresco dining. There's New Faces Cabaret in the Royal Room bringing in a touch of New York City, Junkanoo "any-excuse-for-a-party" live reggae parties to put some groove in your sunset, a Champagne limo tour of the Island mansions, margaritas at the Bimini Bar and dancing at Polo Friday and Saturday nights to the beat of Joe Donato.
The Colony's Pavilion provides 3,200 square feet for executive gatherings or poolside Caribbean-style barbeques for up to 200 guests. Everything from full-service catering to audio/visual equipment can be arranged by the Colony's attentive staff.

Aptly named and newly renovated, the Heart of Palm Beach is a charming European-style hotel on the ocean block of Royal Palm Way--at the very heart of the island. Barely five blocks from Worth Avenue's distinguished shopping and fine dining, guests can take advantage of the hotel's complimentary underground parking and travel the island by foot--or by renting one of the hotel's bicycles.
The hotel's 86 rooms and two suites offer spacious accommodations in a beach house motif with large screen televisions; walls painted in celadon green, flamingo pink or Siberian blue; rattan chairs; crisp white linens, and overstuffed duvets. Many include balconies or terraces with tropical views and fresh ocean air whisked in from the nearby Atlantic beaches.
The Grille serves American cuisine throughout the day and night, and dining under the Garden Pavilion--an outdoor canopy equipped with soft breezes from tropical ceiling fans near the sundeck and heated outdoor pool--is available upon request.
Children under 18 stay free with parents, and a multilingual staff is on hand to make your stay simple and stress-free.
Meeting facilities with catering available include the Atlantic Room, which can cater to up to 150 people for an island board meeting or anniversary celebration; the Board Room, sized for a gathering of up to 20 for tea or an out-of-town business proposal; and the Grand Pavilion, perfect for a wedding reception for up to 100 guests.
Family owned and operated, the Heart of Palm Beach evokes a warm homestyle hospitality that is rare in South Florida--and offers more value than most resort hotels anywhere. This is the Palm Beach lodging venue for those who want a more understated experience in comfortable and private surroundings.
