No Ordinary Hospital Food, at Loma Linda in Murrieta!

From the minute you step into Loma Linda Hospital in Murrieta, Caliornia, you feel like you are in a special place....(More on Loma Linda and more pictures in my next seires of posts), just look at this plate that I served up by myself while I was waiting for my husband to get out of surgery!

Healthy, vegetarian and anything but hospital food! I was mesmerized by the freshness, quality and display of the food as it was almost 1:00 p.m. and I had nothing to eat all day. The food is sold by weight so you can serve it up yourself.

Loma Linda Food, Murrieta

My olfactory senses were smelling hospital food but only out of a pre disposed memory. When I walked all of the way inside where the food was, and saw what was available I was so happy! I try to eat vegetarian and seeing so many vegan entrees was a nice surprise!

The food is all healthy, and there were many other entrees, such as pizza bread which looked really good also. For desert, I had banana cream pie...no picture as I just could not wait!!!

There are "to go", containers also, so you can take it out or eat it there in the beautiful cafeteria that has a patio!

Loma Linda Hospital is new to our area and it's state of the art facility was greatly needed in our area!

We've got another new hospital being built in Temecula and I'm planning a series on that, also!

When Is A Building Permit Required in Riverside County?

This is a follow-up post I wrote about Home Improvements and Property Taxes. Click on the link if you want to find out how some home improvements can alter your property tax payments.

Riverside County, California Building Permit Information.

This information may be different if you are living withing the city limits of any city in Riverside County. Check with your city individually in that case to determine what permits are needed when considering a home improvement.

This information is only for example purposes again, check with the city planning department of the city you reside in.

A permit is required before constructing, enlarging, altering, repairing, or demolishing a building or structure or installing or altering any equipment which is regulated by the model codes adopted by the County of Riverside.

Some Examples of when a permit is required:

Install exterior siding

Finish an unfinished attic or area

Replacing water lines, sewer lines, or a water heater

Replacing a furnace or central air conditioning unit

Installing new electrical circuits or equipment

Any roof repair or replacement which involves more than 25% of the total area of the roof

Pools and spas (except vinyl pools installed above grade with a capacity of 5,000 gallons or less and which have no electrical or gas equipment)

Home Improvements and Property Taxes

One thing to consider when budgeting for home improvements is the fact that any permit pulled can trigger a property tax re-assessment.

The county tax assessor's office researches each city's permit applications and can look into property values of homes that have had permits pulled. Then county tax assessor's will look at the value of recent sold comparable homes in your area to determine the current value of your home.

If property values have not gone up then the value of your home will only go up as much as the improvement increases the value of your home, or not at all depending on the improvement.

If property values were low when you purchased your home but values have increased then your home will be re-assessed at the higher values if a permit is pulled as it gives the tax assessor reason to re-assess your home.

Any internal remodel projects, such as a kitchen re-model that does not involve any electrical ground fault circuit interrupters, electrical changes, or plumbing changes do not need permits. You can remodel your kitchen extensively with new counter tops, flooring and cupboards, and not require a permit. However, if you wanted to put a bar in or a vegetable sink in your kitchen island you would need a permit for that and that could cause the Riverside County Tax Assessor to re-value your home.

Concrete pouring that is level with the ground and vertical walls under three feet in most cases do not require permits. However, check with the entity that governs permits in your area.

If you are going to install a new air conditioning unit where gas lines need to be moved then a permit is usually required. Each city and county is slightly different permit requirements and specifications and checking with the county department building and safety to determine which projects require a permit is the best thing to do. For example if you live within the Temecula city limits then you would contact the Temecula Department of Building and Safety. If you live in the Temecula Wine Country then you would contact the Riverside County Department of Building and Safety.

The California Contractors State License Board web site can provide information regarding licensed contractors and they can assist you with the permit process.

Here's some other links to find more information:

If you live within the city limits of any of these cities contact these government agencies for information about their permit process.
Temecula Department of Building and Safety

Murrieta Department of Building and Safety

Menifee Department of Building and Safety

If your home is located in the County of Riverside and is not located within any city limits then you live in the unincorporated part of Riverside County and need to contact the Riverside County Planning department.
