How Much Paint? 400 Square Feet Per Gallon

How Much Paint Should You Buy to paint your rooms or house? I never know how much paint to buy and I end up buying too much. Once when I sold a house I left over $500.00 worth of paint in the garage for the new homeowner.

If you've ever painted your home's exterior, or even just a room inside, you may have had the problem of what to do with left over paint like I did. To prevent ever having to deal with the messy disposal or storage of partially used can of paint again, here's a way in which you can measure ahead of time to find out exactly how much you'll need.

INTERIOR PROJECTS

1. When painting indoor walls, multiply the room's perimeter by the height of the ceiling.

2. Subtract the square footage of the doors and window frames if you plan to use a different paint for the door or window trim.

3. When painting ceilings or floors, multiply the length of the room by the width.

EXTERIOR PROJECTS

1. To paint siding surfaces, multiply the perimeter by the height.

2. When painting peak areas, multiply the height from the base of the roof line to the tip of the peak by half the base length.

3. To paint the total square footage, find the sum of both the siding surface figure and the figure from the peak areas.

4. To paint gutters, add one square foot for every running foot.

5. If you're using a different paint for the trim, subtract the square footage of doors and frames.

Once you have your measurements, divide the total square footage by 400, the total square footage one gallon of paint will cover. Then you'll know how many gallons of paint your project requires.

I hope this helps you the next time you are planning on a painting project.

Clarksville, TN 20th Anniversary of Riverfest See You There!

Riverfest 20th Year PosterMark Your calendars now:

I am looking forward to the 20th anniversary of Riverfest here in Clarksville, TN. It's a music festival, art show and family-oriented celebration of the city and its waterfront. The event begins on September 7 and 8, with the festival running from 5-11 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. - 11 p.m.

There will be two stages offering great choices in music. The Miller Lite stage will be the setting for performances beginning with Nashville songbird Charlotte Medley, the Confederate Rail Road, Kentucky Head Hunters and more, with a playlist of rhythm and blues, rock, reggae, country, and more. This stage also hosts children''s programming on Saturday morning, including Mountain Marionettes and for the family, Dance Academy Performances.

Oh yes, and we have fireworks over the Cumberland River scheduled for 9:15 on both nights.

I almost forgot the lighted boat parade is something new this year, I'll bet that's going to be beautiful. I am planning on taking my son and I know once he gets out of the car, I won't see him again until after the fireworks, but I know there will be plenty of activities to keep me busy.

I went to Springfest and I had so much fun walking around downtown Clarksville (with the streets blocked off) and listening to the various bands.

Happy Mother's Day Blessings

This blessing is for all the mothers who have sat up all night
with sick toddlers saying, "It's OK honey, Mommy's here."

This blessing is for the mothers who gave birth to babies they may
never see. And the mothers who took those babies-- forever to be
their own children.

This blessing is for all the mothers who attended ball games,
recitals, rehearsals, etc. etc. and who said, "I wouldn't have
missed it for the world," and meant it.

This blessing is for all the mothers of Kosovo who fled in the
night and can't find their children or can't feed their children.

Creator God, what makes a good mother anyway? Is it patience?
Firmness? A soft lap?

Or is mothering what is in her heart?

Is it the ache she feels when she watches her child disappear down
the street, walking to school alone for the very first time?

The jolt that takes her from sleep to dread, from bed to crib at 2
a.m. to put her hand on the back of a sleeping baby?

The need to flee from wherever she is and hug her child when she
hears news of a school shooting, a fire, a car accident, a baby dying?

Yes it is so.

So this blessing is for all the mothers who sat down with their
children and explained all about making babies. And for all the
mothers who wanted to but just couldn't.

This blessing is for all the mothers who yell at their kids in
the grocery store with frustration and despair.

This blessing is for the mothers who show up at work with milk
stains on their blouses and diapers in their purse.

This blessing is for all the mothers who teach their sons to cook
and their daughters to speak up with pride.

This blessing is for mothers who put pinwheels, teddy bears, or
flowers on their children's graves.

This blessing is for mothers whose children have gone astray, who
haven't the words to reach them, and yet have never put them from
their heart.

This blessing is for new mothers stumbling through diaper
changes and sleep deprivation. And mature mothers learning to let
go. For working mothers and stay-at-home mothers. Single mothers
and married mothers.

And this blessing is for all of us who will move beyond
sentiment into actions which support mothers and mothering persons
in all of their life-giving and life-nurturing roles. Amen
