St Patrick’s Day Parade ~ NYC

New York City St Patrick’s Day Parade

A Short Train ride from Newburgh NY Bagpipes

It’s that time of year again. It’s time for another parade with marching bands. Last week I wrote about all the St. Patrick’s Day Parades in the area near Newburgh NY. Those parades are great as they are in local communities. However great they are and convenient, they are not New York City.

Saturday, March 17th 2012 is time for the big one! New York City hosts the largest St Patrick’s Day Parade anywhere. No floats and no cars and no floating balloons, but still there are over 150,000 people marching in this parade. The parade goes up 5th Avenue from 44th to 79th Street. Toward the north end of the St. Patrick's Day Parade route are the best viewing spots: you can avoid the crowds that throng the sidewalks below 59th Street. The St. Patrick's Day Parade ends at 79th Street, around 2 or 3 p.m

Newburgh NY in the Hudson Valley is an Easy Commute to the Parade. Just a hop on the MTA in Beacon and you are in Grand Central Station in about 1hr 15 minutes. You don't have to be Irish to attend. Feeling Lucky? Enjoy! and Think Green.

Parades in the Hudson Valley are abundant, and they range up and down the Hudson River from Albany to New York City. Don’t miss out on your chance to be Irish! This year we are fortunate enough to have St Patrick’s Day fall on a Saturday. Many more people will actually attend the parades and other events in the area. They are so much fun and something special to remember. Of course I am told that if you attend a parade you are Irish for the day! Who can afford not to be lucky on St. Paddy’s Day?!? Of course the local parades are wonderful, but not to be missed is the ultimate of St Patrick's Day Parades in New York City. A quick train ride to NYC and you will be at the oldest, biggest and best parade in the world. A once in a lifetime event! Don't miss out on the fun!

Daylight Savings Time ~ Newburgh NY 2012

Don’t Forget to Set Your Clocks Ahead

Spring forward this Sunday, March 11th 2012Clock

Again we get to set our clocks forward to increase the amount of daylight hours we have. I am definitely in favor of more sunshine. Blue skies are really where it's at, but just because we set our clocks ahead is no guarantee of that. Lots of history and controversy in the when and why of this tradition, but for me, I get more daylight!

An important reminder is to check your Smoke Detectors for Batteries too.

Set your clocks forward from 2AM standard time to 3AM daylight

International Women's Day

A Google Doodle told me it is...

‘International Women’s Day" ~ so what does that mean?

International Women's Day Google Doodle

Did you notice today? A Google Doodle designed to Celebrate

International Women’s Day.

The History began so many years ago in the garment district of New York City, back in the early 1900's. It certainly continued on from there. Today it has moved on to so many different events that are meant to honor the role of women in society. So much history over the years not only here in the US, but internationally in how women are treated in different countries.

A Google Doodle is nice, but honoring women and humanity is better. The goal of the celebration and recognition becomes a tribute not only to women but to men as well, and therefore, mankind. So to me, it is not really just honoring women, but honoring our society and how we all treat each other.

"Happy International Women's Day" to everyone.

Here sits the very first robin of the season for me.. tne marking of spring. Just hanging out with his buddies and looking for a mate … soon to have a nest and some babies! I guess he will be building a new home.
