I picked up our local newspaper this morning and was touched by an article that I thought I would share with all of you. There is a animal rescue organization in Fillmore California that are taking dogs in from Guam. They are flying them into the United States a few at a time. 150 former racing greyhounds were abandoned in the U. S. territory in the South Pacific after the island's dog racing track abruptly closed its doors in November. After hearing the news reports, Homestretch Greyhound Rescue in Fillmore is joining forces with the Greyhound Protection League in Northern California to do something to help the animals. They currently have taken in 54 greyhounds. You can check out more about this at http://www.guamgreyhounds.org/ There are still many greyhounds that need adoption as soon as possible. What is really needed in addition to financial donations, are boarding kennels that could provide short term accomodations at little or no cost.
For more information on how to help the greyhound rescue effort and to inquire about adopting one of the dogs, interested persons can go to http://www.guamgreyhounds.org/ or call the toll free number 800-446-8637.
Contact Barbara for direct adoption at: http://www.homestretchgreys.org

Okay, I'm feeling soapy and thinky today so get ready. Lately, I have been into enjoying more of the small pleasures in my life...thank goodness for that! Being a real estate agent in this economy can drive you sort of crazy if you let it. Yes, I believe it is a great time to jump into the market now, so send a referral my way if you agree! Now lets talk about the winner of the Westminster Dog Show this year. Every year for at least 12 years I attended the Westminster first with both of my parents and in later years just my mom...The last year of my mom's life she said to me in January, "I know I am supposed to go somewhere important next month, but I just can't remember where..." Yes, this was sad, but it made me realize how much she loved and lived to go to that show and YES she went with me that year. In prior years, she always took me, but that last year I took her. It was the last one she attended but it was sooo special for us to go together. That was in 2003. I was born and raised with a boarding kennel, show dogs and the show circuit, so I realized that this is what she would really enjoy in her last months.

The Sussex Spaniel that went Best In Show this year almost died a number of years ago, but he had a will to live and return to Westminster just like mom! Westminster is his last show and what a glorious moment. How wonderful. "Stump" or Ch. Clussexx Three D Grinchy Glee (okay you have to be a fun person to name your dog this!) represents one of the oldest breeds recognized by the AKC. Long, low, largebone, massive head, with a rolling gait and Oh Yes...the happy tail is the Sussex. He enjoyed every moment of his glory. He shouted "Look at me!" "Pick me!" Geez, that is what I want to do when trying to get clients to realize I am a great agent...I want to say, "I'm the one for you!" "I know the market!" "I can find you a great buy!" "Call me for Ventura County Real Estate!"...sorry, I got a little carried away in the enthusiasm of it all here.
Sadly the Sussex has dwindled to no more than 600 in the USA. They have been a declining breed. An unknown amongst the more flashy breeds....feel familiar to us agents trying to get noticed among the big timers? Check out the website if you decide you want to buy a puppy instead of sell a home. It is: http://www.sussexspaniels.org
Or if you decide to send a referral my way or move to Southern California (smart move by the way!) check out the real estate at: http://www.Venturahomesforsale.org
One last photo for your enjoyment...My Libby guarding her stuffed rabbit on the couch....Now go and sell some real estate!
