A year ago, Central Florida Gas initiated the pilot program to add automated meter reading (AMR) to our nature coast consumers. Currently nearly all 2,000 meters have had the meter transfer (mtu) installed.
The system works as the MTU sends a radio signal to a data collector unit (DCU) pictured here. The DCU's are strategically spread throughout the market and gather data from a one mile radius.
The readings are then sent dayly by cell phone signal from the DCU to a computer where Central Florida Gas Customer Service Employees can monitor the readings.
A DCU is being installed on the Crystal River Water Tower. Preliminary reports are the system is fully functioning in the Nature Coast and is working well.
