Great Facebook Explanation From One Of The Creators

After following a few links and reading up on how the Obama campaign "PWNED" the internet (also translated as "Owned" or "WON"). I came across this interview with a Mr. Hughes.  One of the founders of Facebook and he goes in depth to describe what it is and how they envisioned people using it.  Oh and by the way, he was the genius behind the social media campaign of Obama.

Shift Book Tour - Video - How Have You Shifted

The biggest difference in my life is that I am being purposeful about every action, good or bad. There's a desired outcome I'm trying to achieve.  It's tough to maintain this level of profiency but I turned the corner when I realized that getting ready for "work" was just like playing sports.  I need to prepare mentally for the day then go after it for the score.

Well, attending the SHIFT Book Tour is no different.  I set out to find out what other people thought and I interviewed them below.

Atlanta Ranks #13 on Twitter for the Most Activity

According to TwitterLocal.net, Atlanta, GA ranks as the 13th most active area for Tweets. If you aren't using Twitter then there's probably a good reason. If you are like me you thought it was a mindless update on what someone is doing at a given time, but it's actually a live world with endless research opportunities and a great way to stay in touch.

What baffles me (more on using twitter later) is that it would seem that the West Coast should be all over this and based on just the relationships I have here locally that no is using Twitter. So for us to be 13 is something special.

So at least here is proof that there are SOME geeks in Atlanta, using Twitter!

Appraisers do not look at the Market....

You read it right. I was talking to a seller yesterday as he ranted about giving his home away at a discount and I asked him, "Discount? Where is the discount coming from?" He replied that the home appraised last year at a higher price thus making it at least a $10K discount. I asked him if the home would appraise for that now. ... Wait for it.... Then he says, "of course it would! If anything it would appraise for more! Appraisers don't look at the market!"

So the conversation went on like that, but I would shudder to think that evaluation methods whether replacement costs or actual value (cost per square foot) would not take the market into consideration. Sure, I agree, the real estate market is like the stock market, but it's actually pretty darn slow moving and it's ALMOST predictable. Well within statistical percentages that are closer than gallop polls.

As a seller in this market you HAVE to consider the market conditions. These are just some of the conversations I'm having in Lawrenceville, GA.

Twitter Inspired Accountability Test - Review of Chronicles of Jarvinia

If you've been reading any of my blogs then you know I was trying something out with an accountability test. For those of you who don't know, here's the basics of what I was trying to do.

  1. A few times a year I write down my activities every 15 minutes or so. Am I on point? Am I focused? It really helps to see if I am.
  2. Twitter is still something relatively new to me and I had the same opinion as my wife about it, "going out the door... sticking keys into car...wondering why the door is still unlocked...." Doesn't really sound like a productive tool, but it can be.
  3. An older blog post inspired the idea of accountability or rather renewed it.

So the goal was to combine those two into a longer blog post and see what happened. For a recap of the day's activities go here:

So what did I learn?

The biggest take away I have is that I can plan for the best week possible and strive to achieve it but I really need to learn to "roll" with the punches. Being able to shift, whether it's the market, my schedule, my goals or my life is going to determine my feelings of success on any given day.

Some other quick tips:

  • E-mail can be a distraction
  • Having the internet up during call time can be distracting
  • Not having a plan before the day starts can really suck the energy out of the day
  • Affirmations work
  • Colds can affect performance
  • Every day at work is a performance, like GAME DAY for an athlete
