The Golden Eagles of Fleming Island Florida High School won their first game of the season this past Wednesday, February 10th, 7 - 6 against a very good Sandalwood team. It was a back and forth game with Sandalwood taking first blood but quickly tied up by the Golden Eagles. No team ever had a 2 point margin. Going into the 4th period the Saints had a one goal lead at 6-5. The Eagles took the game in hand with some physical play on both ends of the field, tied the game and then went ahead on Kurt Mussler's fierce shot just outside the crease on a passing pattern. The game was called with less than 3 minutes to play by the Sandalwood Coach who had suffered enough first game injuries (3 players needed help getting off the field) that he didn't want to put any more players at risk. Both teams have a lot to be proud of and to build from in this opening game of the season.
The 2009 F I H Boy's Lacrosse team has been set. The tryouts were fierce but the level of play has been elevated to a new standard here on Fleming Island. In this their 3rd season as a Varsity Sport the Golden Eagles look to make their mark in the LAX standing.
