A Word About The Upcoming 2012 Election From - JFK

Sometimes I'm in awe or utterly amazed when I read quotes from our forefathers or historical figures I admire.

  • I've always been a big fan of John F Kennedy. Tonight I was scrolling through some of his quotes. I found he had a typical dry New England sense of humor.

"Do you realize the responsibility I carry? I'm the only person standing between Richard Nixon and the White House."
John F. Kennedy

  • JFK believed in in our freedoms and our liberty. He was not boastful about our resolve, but stated it fairly simply.

"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty."
John F. Kennedy

  • One quote caught my eye tonight as we sit and debate who will oppose the current President.

I'm not always the most articulate person in the world. I've been trying to say this as we kick around Cain, Romney, Perry and the rest. Perhaps JFK saw our future much clearer then we realize.

John F Kennedy

"Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer.

Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future."

John F. Kennedy

You Heard Of Men In Tights? How About Men In Wigs?

After reading these old guys in wigs, one must ask if they possessed a crystal ball?

"I Can See Clearly Now" must have been a pop standard in the 1700's

"We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our selection between economy and liberty or profusion and servitude.

If we run into such debts as that we must be taxed in our meat in our drink, in our necessities and comforts, in our labors and in our amusements, for our callings and our creeds...our people.. must come to labor sixteen hours in the twenty-four, give earnings of fifteen of these to the government for their debts and
daily expenses; and the sixteenth being insufficient to afford us bread, we must live..
We have not time to think, no means of calling the mis-managers to account, but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow suffers.

Our landholders, too...retaining indeed the title and stewardship of estates called theirs, but held really in trust for the treasury, must...be contented with penury, obscurity and exile.. private fortunes are destroyed by public as well as by private extravagance.

This is the tendency of all human governments.
A departure from principle becomes a precedent for a second; that second for a third; and so on, till the bulk of society is reduced to mere automatons of misery, to have no sensibilities left but for sinning and suffering... And the fore horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression." Thomas Jefferson

How could seemingly ordinary men commit to writing over 200 years ago, that which we see today? It would seem the country got stupider the older it became.
