A developer's hope of building a bridge from Peas Island to Long Island appears dashed following a SC Supreme Court ruling that says that state no longer owns a right of way on Peas Island. This resolution is one of the biggest court decisions in Folly Beach Real Estate history.
K & A acquisition group purchased the island in 2005 for 7.5 million and hoped to develop homes on the property consisting of 140 acres of high land stretching over 2.5 miles between James Island, Peas, Morris and Folly Islands. The ruling may mean that if you want to get to Long island it will have to be by boat or plane.

James Island Weekly Real Estate News: Home sales decline, but...
As the prime spring home-buying season came to a close, Charleston's real estate market began to show some encouraging signs. Homes sold throughout the region totaled 732 in June, a 12% drop from the same month last year. James Island Real Estate buyers were just about dead even with the region's numbers.
For the entire spring season, sales were off roughly 20% over 2008, or more than 40% compared to 2007. Some industry experts noted that more sellers have readjusted their expectation of their home value, which has brought prices down considerably.

James Island Weekly Real Estate News: Existing Home Sales Rise
Sales of previously occupied homes rose modestly from April to May, but signs of recovery are fragile at best. James Island Real Estate sales show the same modest boost that the national numbers reflect. The National Association of Realtors said that home sales rose 2.4%, missing analyst expectations and sending the stock market lower.
The key statement coming from this news came from Paul Dales, US economist with Capital Economics who wrote, "While activity has stabilized, a meaningful recovery has yet to begin."

Folly's population is just over 2000, but on a summer day, that number increases drastically. Just 10 minutes from Charleston, it remains a favorite spot for Charlestonians looking to beat the summer heat. Six miles of white sandy beaches provide just the right terrain for shelling, sand castle building or a pick up game of volleyball. The wash-out, found on the eastern side of the island, is considered the premier surf break in the Southeast. The western side of the island offers The Folly Beach County Park complete with restrooms, showers, ample parking and lifeguards.
Folly's pier is 1,000 feet long and perfect for catching fish. There's a tackle shop here as well, to make a fisherman's life that much easier. Parasailing, sea kayaking, bicycle riding, boating ....there's so much to do at Folly every day can be a completely different experience!
