This year marks the 127th Anniversary of what is revered as the 50th largest fair in North America and the second largest in North Carolina! It's the Dixie Classic Fair - an annual, ten-day event filled with southern charm and hospitality. Close to the heart of locals, the Dixie Classic continues to round up fair-goers from all over the region. Fun-followers, fair-food enthusiasts and thrill-seekers alike come to experience the festivities. Kicking off Friday, October 2nd, this spectacular event promises to be tastier and more action packed than ever. Flavor and fun meet on the Fairgrounds along with national acts and entertainment, games of skill, the demolition derby, Blue Ribbon livestock and competitions galore. So whether you're a 4Her, a great pie maker or simply a fan of excitement, this is the fairest of fairs. Come Taste the Thrill!

Proud to be an Energy Star Builder

Piedmont Personal Builders is a certified Energy Star Builder. We like to think that we are making a contribution to a greener environment and having just a bit of a positive effect on global warming. Energy Star certification benefits us, but especially benefits you, the home buyer.

Our custom built homes are more energy efficient, more comfortable to live in and can save you money. In North Carolina, most of the power companies offer a 5% discount on your energy rates. Energy Star certification guarantees at least a 15% savings on your energy bills, compared to the same home without the Energy Star features.

Energy Star certified homes include R15 insulation in the walls and R38 insulation in the ceilings. All cavities in the walls, ceilings and floors, as well as spaces around electrical outlets, wall switches, HVAC ducts, etc. are completely sealed against air leakage. Windows are low-e glass and Argon Gas filled.

Our custom homes are tested several times by an independent EPA certified HERS consultant. The testing results in a rating number showing the percentage of energy savings. We have had a home rated as high as 31%. Of course this high a number can't be guaranteed on all homes Piedmont Personal Builders builds, but we strive for the highest rating possible on every home we build.

So next time you are ready to build a new home, ask your builder if they are Energy Star Certified.

I am happy to be home and thankful for all that I have.

I am back home in Greensboro, North Carolina today and happy to be here. I attended a convention in Atlantic City, NJ over the last few days. Sure it was fun and I may have visited a casino or two. But the contrast between the glitz of the casino's flashing lights and most of the city was dramatic. There were many areas of town which were quite run down and obviously a great deal of poverty surrounds the riches of the casinos. There were homeless people on many street corners asking for money, yet only a block away, thousands of people "gave" their money to the casinos.

Driving home, I had a great deal of time to reflect on what I saw. As I approached Greensboro, I realized how lucky I am. I have a job. I have a beautiful home in a great town. I have everything I could possibly want. I know I have to share that with others who are not so fortunate.
