Most visitors to Oahu rarely make it out of Waikiki and even fewer still make it to the Leeward coast, whose wild and wooley reputation keeps even the city locals at bay. Never the less, the Waianae has some of the most beautiful beaches and siteseeing on Oahu and despite it's noteriety as being "rough" the hiking in the Waianae is well worth the trip.
There are many hiking trails and sites to see on the Leeward coast of Oahu located about 30 to 40 min from Honolulu International Airport. The Waianae Mountain Range is is capped by Kaena Point to the north and Makakilo ridge to the south and is home to the tallest peak on Oahu, Mt. Ka'ala, which rises 4025ft above Makaha Valley to the west with Waialua to the North East. Mt. Ka'ala is easily recognized by the giant geodesic dome that sits high on the mountains ridge line, which is used by the US Navy as a satellite tracking station. Here are some photos from a recent hiking expidition to the Waianae Range directly adjacent to the Makaha ahua pu'a'a.

Trash Talk, somebody has to do it!
Today I'm dishing the dirt on the most overlooked space in the house when it comes to staging, the garage. Consumer culture has transformed this enclosed car port into more than just a place to park the car, it has become a catch all for all our junk.
When it comes to selling your property the garage should be staged just like all the other rooms of the home and that means clearing out the clutter, disposing of the unwanted items, and leaving the place neat and clean.

Aside from last years holiday ornaments and the collection of fondue pots, the garage usually has some highly toxic materials such as old paint, rubber tires, car batteries, solvents, oils, chemicals, and fertilizers.
These items cannot simply be thrown away and usually require special drop off dates, designated depositories, and pick ups. Make sure to visit your city or towns waste management web site to find out the specifics of where and when these items can be disposed of in your neighborhood.
You should begin this process as soon as you decide to sell your home because many of the disposal services for HAZMAT items happen less than once a month.
In Hawaii visit http://www.opala.org for more information on the disposal of hazardous materials
Colorful Curb Appeal; Painting with Plants:
In Hawaii we are blessed with incredible tropical flora, some of it indigenous much of it imported. To really add some zing to your curb appeal I have assembled some of my favorites.
Ti plants (Cordyline terminalis)3'-6' are indigenous to Hawaii and are found through out Polynesia and tropical climes worldwide. Ti's come in a great number of shapes, colors, and textures. Here are just some of the many varieties available.
Ti plants are sacred to the Hawaiian's and are used in many ways in addition to landscaping. Foods such a Lau Lau and Kalua Pig are wrapped in Ti leaves and cooked in Imu's (traditional Hawaiian oven's dug in the ground), They are also used as hula skirts, in religious ceremonies and as offertory wrappings.

Lauae Fern (Microsorium Scolopendria Plypodium) 3' to 4' is another indigenous plant that has great cultural significance, as well as, adding wonderful texture to the landscaping. Lauae is best known as an Hawaiian homeopathic remedy for high blood pressure.
