San Antonio Spurs: Are you ready?????
In honor of the San Antonio Spurs season opener, I thought I would dedicate wordless Wednesday to their season schedule.
I am a sports fan (primarily dedicated to football and basketball). I devote most of my time and energy to watching the Texas teams - Spurs, Cowboys, Longhorns, Texans. I do, however, watch other teams as well - I just can't promise to root for them! I am a San Antonio girl and so I am a huge Spurs fan! I am looking forward to this NBA season and I will end this post with three little words "GO SPURS GO"!

Twitter Live!

Many people are flocking to the latest social networking tool called Twitter. When I first started "tweeting" I was like most people, I really didn't get it. I didn't see the point, I mean really, randomly sending out bits of information (in 140 characters or less) to strangers. So I started very slowly, then I started observing and trying to learn from the people on Twitter that really seemed to get something out of it and who were able to give something back. Slowly, my momentum started to build and I actually started to have some engaging conversations with people, it became educational and fun!
A few months into my Twitter travels, I came across a post by @nanpalmerothe link was a "twit-vite". This is an invitation to a twitter event (aka tweetup). This particular event is a monthly lunch called #BMPR (business media public relations). So for the last three months I have been attending this lunch and have actually had the chance to meet in person some of the entertaining and witty folks I have been following all this time.
This month's #bmpr was held at The Oak Hills Country Club in honor of the ATT Championship Series that is being held here in San Antonio this weekend. The topic was Social Media for Social Good. We had speakers from the San Antonio Food Bank, San Antonio Blood and Tissue Center and Hugs for Holly. All three of these organizations are using social media (twitter, Facebook, etc) to spread their message and increase their effectiveness.

The other thing that I am learning and loving about Twitter, is that no matter where you are in your twittercation the people out there are ready, willing and able to share knowledge and help others. If you are on Twitter and in the San Antonio area make it a point to come to the next #bmpr and if you are in another area, I highly recommend trying to search for local tweetups and start turning the online connections into real live ones!
Oh and if you are on Twitter I would love to have you follow me and vice versa...you can find me at @sahomesales.
How can I get the most face from Facebook?
Facebookhas quickly become one of the most widely used social networking sites and many professionals are taking advantage of the opportunity to market their products and services. There are definitely some big mistakes some people make when doing this. There are probably several ways to go about using the network successfully but in my opinion the following are some important do's and don'ts for professionals utilizing Facebook.
1. Keep all photos and comments pg-13, un-offensive and un-obnoxious. Make sure you learn how to un-tag yourself just in case you have "friends" who think its a good idea to post pictures of you from that bachelor party last weekend.

2. If you are going to advertise your business GET A FAN PAGE or you might be removed from facebook! Its fine to mention what you do and what things you are doing that are related to your business (i.e. I'm off to show some homes this afternoon.) but don't post "commercial" type things.

3. Remember the 80/20 rule (courtesy of Kristin Moran). On your personal Facebook page, you don't want to be the (insert profession here) that uses Facebook to scream pick me! pick me! You know who I am talking about, the one that updates nothing but business. The quickest way to get "de-friended" by lots of people is to shove your product or service down their throat. Try to keep your updates to 80% personal (i.e. Had a great time at the zoo this weekend with the family!) and 20% business (i.e. I am excited about my open house this weekend!)

4. Be engaging and interact with your friends. Comment of their updates and photos and make sure to respond to people when they get in touch with you. If all interactions are one-sided, you will start to see a decline in the effectiveness of Facebook.

5. Don't be afraid to make connections. I (as a general rule of thumb) will accept all friend requests. If after accepting the request, you notice that a particular person is posting inappropriate content on a regular basis, you can very easily un-friend them or even block them. You never know where a connection might lead to, that boyfriend from 3rd grade just might have a cousin in your area needing your product or service. If he doesn't know what you are up to (professionally) he might never know to send the business your way.

The bottom line, is to use some common sense when creating (or increasing) your on-line presence. Keep it simple, keep it clean and keep it productive!
"Success is a journey, not a destination." Ben Sweetland
I took this picture on a particularly tough day. I was struggling to figure out how to run my business and create success for myself, getting used to being responsible for my own income. Having gone from a salaried position to full time real estate was not easy. I had some personal struggles going on in my life at the time and had to fight every day to maintain a positive attitude. To top it off...it was the middle of winter and I desperately missed the sunshine and warm weather.

I am naturally an optimist, a glass is half full kind of gal but on this day I was in the dumps. I picked my kids up from school and instead of going back to my house to face laundry, dinner, and homework, I decided to take the kids to a nearby hiking trail for a walk. The last think I wanted to do was bring my kids down and sink their day so I thought this might be a good distraction.
I spent the first 10 minutes on my cell phone dealing with one of the personal issues I was trying to deal with and right in the middle of that conversation I looked up and saw this view of my three angels. The were walking along, singing, looking for bugs and other cool stuff and I realized that I was (and still am) very blessed. I hung up the phone and took this picture. I set this as my phone screen saver and use it to remind me that no matter how tough things get it is important to stop and take time to count your blessings, look for bugs and take walks with people you love.

Some days I may wonder off my path or lose site of my goals but as long as I remember to get back on the horse and get back on track then my success WILL be a journey and NOT a destination!
