Another absolutely perfect day in the Highlands!

Well you now what they say about teaching an "old dog" new tricks! As I have every day since turning 18, many years ago, I rolled out of bed early to cast my ballot. I was happy to see several people there who I have assisted with finding a home right here in the Highlands. I also was proud to see several of my fellow REALTORS in the lines. We all have our opinion as to whom should be elected, it is just important that we vote. It was interesting to note that when I arrived at the polling place around 5:45 the line was stretching across the parking lot at Bellarmine U. I have voted in many elections at this site and I have never seen a line so long!

As I looked around at the faces of the other folks there to due their duty, I felt a rush of pride. Our founding fathers where so intuitive to build into our constitution a "mini revolution" every four years.

Day's like today make me truly proud to be an American!

Have a Spooktacular Day!

I love Halloween! You can tell by my myspace page that I am just a kid at heart during this time of year. I remember being in 4th grade and walking home from school, kicking at the dead leaves and singing at the top of my voice, "One smiling pumpkin sitting on the fence"! The thrill of running in the house and getting in my costume as quickly as possible and the angst as I realize that it would be almost two whole hours before it was time to hit the street! I can't help thinking about the fact that in the small Western Kentucky town where I grew up, most of our costumes were of very humble origins. Usually a bed sheet became a ghost, one of my dad's old ties and shoes and a hobo was born. In our community most income was used for food and clothing, the thought of spending good money on a costume was foriegn to us. I would run from house to house in my homemade getup happily dropping candy in a pillowcase and basking in the praise from the adults about my "creative" costume.

As I have gotten older I remain fascinated with Halloween. Louisville is a city that embraces this night of fright! Many neighborhoods decorate for the holiday, with Hillcrest Avenue being one of my favorites. If I am not spending the holiday in Louisville, one of my "other" favorite places to be on Halloween is Salem Ma. It is a great time and the city is so hospitable.

The lore surrounding Halloween is very interesting as well. An old tradition I try to hold to, is that on Halloween day you should do what you love as this will set the tone for the remainder of the year. So today I am going to spend some time working, going to the bank, showing a home to a buyer and sending out thank you cards!!! Tonight I am having dinner with my partner and we are having few friends over to hand out candy. The next 12 months are on course to be some of the best of our lives, (if we believe it)!!!! So let's do things today that get the ball rolling!

Remember, I love finding homes for all kinds of creatures, Ghouls, Witches, Mummy's, Zombies and yes even Yard Gnomes! I will work myself batty making home buyers and sellers happy!

Highlands Happenings, Jack O'Lantern Stroll at Bellarmine Campus

For those of you read my blog consistently you know that I have given a meriad of reasons why I love the Highlands. From the lovely and diverse homes, friendly folks and beautiful tree lined streets and parks, to the abundance of great places to eat and be entertained.

Today I wanted to take a moment and share with you another reason I love the Highlands, and that reason is called Dreams With Wings! Dreams With Wings is Metro Louisville's largest non-profit group offering support services for individuals with mental retardation, developmental disabilities and autism. They are located in the heart of the Highlands on Bardstown Road. (next to Za's Pizza, Yummy)

This weekend is the annual Jack O'Lantern Stroll held at the Bellarmine Univeversity Campus. They will have the worlds largest pumpkin pie, Trick or Treating for the children, crafts, Bands and spooky story telling! They will have 1000 carved pumpkins of all shapes and sizes. Please do not miss this as all the proceeds will go to the Dreams With Wings organization.

When you attend, take a few minutes before or after and drive or walk the neighborhood around the campus. Belknap and Deer Park are just a couple of neighborhoods in the Highlands that surround the campus. If you like what you see call me and I can get you in to take a closer look at any of the homes in the highlands that are for sale or we can begin a search for your special new Highlands Home! I live just two short blocks from the campus and can think of at least 20 homes within walking distance currently on the market. As the Highlands area is very desirable they usually don't stay on the market long, so call me today.

Are you a Believer?

As I sit in Heine Bros coffee shop trying to catch up on some needed website maintenance I notice folks walking in and out, all with their own stories. I bet if we took a poll and questioned them about their experiences with buying or selling their homes we would get an earful, both positive and negative. I started to think about what I can do to ensure that if my clients were to be asked they would have only positive things to say about their transactions with me. I am a firm believer that it is all about attitude and how we choose to percieve the situation. If we enter the transaction from a place of fear and negativity then that is how the transaction will usually be remembered. If we look at the real estate market collectively from this same place.....well I'm not implying that our thoughts can change the market, I am saying that it can influence our daily lives and the our own sense of satisfaction!

I continue to hold to the fact that it is not as bad as the pundants would have us believe. Houses are selling every single day and new houses are entering the market as well allowing for a nice inventory to choose from. Being somewhat a rookie to this I hear stories of the times when you would just put a sign in the yard and the phone would ring off the hook and you would have multiple offers. Please don't think that I wouldn't like that scenario because I would, however that has not been my experience. From the time I signed with my broker I have worked hard every day for every house listed and sold. And I have had 100% success! Note: I did not say that every house I have listed I have sold or that every buyer I have had has resulted in a sale. What has happened is I have learned something with every single transaction. Coming from a corporate environment and entering the real estate market when everyone said not to do it has been the best move I have made, ever.

I was talking with a friend last night after listing a home and she asked how I liked Real Estate....well you guess what I told her!

So how do I keep my positive attitude?

  • Every night and every morning I say a thank you to the highest power for my life
  • I surround myself with others who think in a positive manner
  • I try to learn something new every day (this one is not difficult)
  • I look at real estate as a way to help people and improve others life satisfaction, not my own personal ATM
  • I smile and laugh as much as possible
  • I look for the magical in life and enjoy nature and my animals
  • I dream, yes at my ripe old age I still do dream
  • I honor and love those entities around me who enrich my life. (family, friends ect)
  • Last and most importantly I try to see myself in others treating them as I would like to be treated.

Last week in our Coaching session our broker shared a quote from his own Father, it was "If you don't believe something can happen then it probably wont". He challenged us to take those words to heart and we have. So I in turn challenge each of you to do the same! Let's continue to enjoy a market that is fluid and improving with everyday. Let's Believe!

OK...now at the top of your voice I challenge you to stand up...where ever you are and yell loudly, I BELIEVE. Now when everyone stops laughing at you send me an email and share the ways in which you remain positive.

Jeff
