Tips on fishing the Solomons area will be presented by one of the Chesapeake Bay's most experienced charter boat captains at the April meeting of the Coastal Conservation Association Maryland Patuxent River Chapter. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m.Captain Sonney Forrest, who has almost 35 years of fishing experience on the Chesapeake, will speak on "Light Tackle Fishing Opportunities around Solomons Island." The meeting is open to the public.

Failing septics near water must now be upgraded

New law says grants, tax credits cover costs

The article goes into detail regarding homeowners within 1000 feet of tidal waters who have a failing septic system that needs replacement will have to replace the system using the best available technology. The goal is to reduce the amount of nitrogen run off into the Chesapeake Bay. The article focuses on St Marys County, but the law covers the entire state of Maryland.

Calvert Marine Museum
Otter Day!
All Day! Join an interpreter with the otter cart out in the Estuarium Hall from 10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Meet the Otter Keeper at 1:15 p.m. and learn what's involved in taking care of these mischievous critters. See the National Geographic documentary Adirondack Otters at 2:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Catch a special visit from the CMM Otter in the afternoon and don't forget to visit the museum store to purchase new "paw print" gifts that are arriving daily.

Fossil Egg Hunt! 10:00 a.m. Discover hidden fossil eggs throughout the museum. For children age 3-8, divided into two age groups. Please bring your own basket for collecting eggs; participants get to keep their fossils. In addition, take a special tour through the fossil hall at 2:00 p.m. and learn about other fossils from our fossil cart between 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Free with paid admission. Toy Boat Building from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. with sessions starting on the half hour. $2 donation.

Catch the fun! Fishing for something to do today? Come to the museum between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and get some help making a bamboo fishing pole. Try it out in our boat basin - just remember to return what you catch! Materials fee is $3 per pole, $5 for two. Boomerang Making Workshop at 11:00 and 2:00, $2 donation.
