I've heard the rumors.... I know the brokers of many brands are saying "she won't be here for long." Let me be the one to tell you, they're WRONG... I'm here and I'm STAYING! My office is growing at TWICE the pace expected in a good market, and while I feel the market is turning, I don't think anyone would dispute the fact that we are not in a good market yet, but nevertheless, my office is still growing at TWICE the pace expected in a GOOD market. While MANY offices in the area are CONSOLIDATING locations, LAYING OFF bookkeepers, CUTTING services, FIRING secretaries, and CLOSING locations, my office is GROWING. I have 23 phone lines waiting for you to use, 3,000 square feet of beautifully furnished prime office space for you to work at, a fabulous website that is getting 1,500 hits a month and climbing, a highly visible location with good walk-in traffic, internet ads to generate leads for you, full-time support staff to handle your needs and schedule your showings, state of the art equipment for you to use, T1 super fast internet, and all of the tools, training, leads, and brand recognition that RE/MAX offers. My budget is significantly lower than that of many other offices in the area, as I do not have the extra staff and other costs added during the boom, but I am providing ALL the tools and services my agents need... and then some. My budget has PLENTY of room to add even more tools and services as we grow and need them. That is the model that businesses that last are built on. I plan to be one of those businesses.
Let me tell you what I DON'T have, that many of your brokers DO.... I DON'T have an office manager's salary to pay because I am managing the office. That's good for you because I am here for you as a broker, manager, and owner. I DON'T have an office full real estate dabblers who haven't sold anything in years because I am only adding dedicated full-time agents to my team. That's good for you because you are surrounded by positive, professional, successful people who are encouraging, not depressing. I DON'T have a bookkeeper's salary to pay because I do the books and cut the checks myself. That is good for you because you get your check faster with less paperwork. I DON'T have multiple offices to distract me. That is good for you because all of my time, energy, and attention is focused on the location at which you work. I DON'T have set ways that are inflexible because my agents and I are building the office as we go. That is good for you because your input matters. I DON'T have rigid ideas because I am new and fresh. That is good for you because I am trying new things everyday, keeping what works and eliminating what does't instead of just sticking with the way things have always been done. I DON'T have an IT department to pay for and wait for because I handle the phone system, computers, and web site myself. That is good for you because if you need something changed or explained, I can do it right now instead of waiting for the IT guy to come by. I DON'T have expensive leases on computers, copiers, or furnishings because I own everything in the office out right. That's good for you because if it isn't right I don't have to wait for the lease to end to replace it. There are many other things I DON'T have that your broker does, but what I DON'T have benefits you in the end.
Let me tell you about what I DO have... I have an unstoppable drive. I joined RE/MAX when I first got my real estate license. I immediately told my broker that I only wanted to work sellers. He thought I was CRAZY and wouldn't be around for long. He was WRONG, just like your broker is! In my FIRST full calendar year in the business, I made OVER $100,000, and most of it was from representing sellers. I do not cut corner nor break the rules. Instead, I look better and more effective ways to do things and combine that with lots of hard work.
I know many of you have checked out my web site, www.GoWithExperience.com, but haven't called to set up a meeting with me. What are you waiting for? It's confidential and there's no obligation. Why not get some free information and make a new contact in the process? Come see what a growing office looks like. Come meet the lady they call "crazy" for opening a RE/MAX office in a down market. Find out for yourself what RE/MAX Complete Solutions is all about. Who knows, maybe I'll inspire you to take advantage of the BIGGEST brand in the world, the BEST tools and training out there, and encourage you to join the FASTEST GROWING OFFICE in the area.

One of my agents came into the office the other day and said, "Jen, you know how you have all those motivational sayings? Well, I've got a new one for you...When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." Now, I love that one! That can be applied to so many areas of life and that is what I am always trying to communicate to people. It is a combination of the glass half full vs. half empty and "If you can see it, you can achieve it." The people who know me know that I live and speak all of these sayings daily. In my new position as a Broker/Owner of a RE/MAX office in a highly competitive market, I try to lead by example. It is not what happens to you during the course of a day that matters, it is how you deal with and react to what happens that matters. Life is about choices. I chose to divert the money that would pay for a cleaning service at the office into providing realtor.com enhanced listing packages for all of my agents for free, so when it's time for me to clean the toilets I don't mope about. It's all in the way you look at things. I could look at the cleaning as something I won't do, or I can look at it as something I will gladly do to free up funds for something else I value more. It's all in your attitude. When a prospect says "no," you can mope about it, or you can realize it means you are 1 prospect closer to the one that says "yes." It is always your choice which way to go. If you stop and think about all of the happy people you know and all of the successful people you know, what do they have in common? They all see the glass as half full. They accept, adapt, improvise, and overcome.
I am very blessed to be surrounded by optimistic, inspiring, and encouraging people, so I think it is easier for me to be that way. I try to fill my surroundings with these positive influences. There are motivational prints and sayings throughout my office. Everyone who has joined my office is of the same philosophy. We feel good when others feel good. It's silly and simple, but it makes it a pleasure to come to the office. It bothers me when my agents tell me stories about interactions with depressed or nasty agents in other offices because I know those are just un-nurtured people. I want to go and drag those agents into our office so we can heal them with positivity... if that's a word, but you get my gist. If you are not lucky enough to be surrounded by positive, encouraging surroundings to nurture your spirit, please take the time to nurture yourself. Get a copy of Charles Swindoll's "Attitude" and read it to yourself. Remember the "Serenity Prayer." Find your own motivational sayings or borrow one of ours. My favorite is, "If it is to be, it is up to me!" Whatever it takes to get a handle on the world around you, do it. Life is too short to live miserable. There is always something positive out there if you just learn to look for it. Ironically, when your attitude changes, so do the things in your life...."When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."

I often hear people say that "branding" doesn't really make a difference. Is that really the truth?? Many women who can afford to, and even some who can not, pay big money to carry Prada bags or wear D & G shoes. Men spring for Jaguars or Mercedes over Toyotas or Hundais. Most people will buy a Polo shirt instead of the generic of the same style at Walmart, Target or Sears. Winn Dixie and Publix make cheaper butter, yet Land O Lakes is still a big seller. Many people prefer Amana appliances over Whirpool, eventhough they are made by the same company. If people prefer brands in all of these areas, do you think they look at the brand when choosing a real estate agent??
Obviously, personality closes the deal in real estate. If a client likes you and feels you are qualified, professional, and hard working they will work with you, but do you miss opportunites by not being with a big "brand" ? Does the RE/MAX agent get more opportunities to show he is qualified, professional, and hard working and therefore close more deals? Does our brand bring us more opportunity? Does it open more doors?
Having been a RE/MAX agent for years, I know first-hand that my brand does help me a lot. RE/MAX has so much to offer, but the branding is at the top of the list. I am perceived as being qualified and professional just by being with RE/MAX, as RE/MAX is known for having qualified and professional agents. While I am proud of my qualifications and always prepared to discuss them, I rarely get asked about my experience, background, or education. I rarely need to prove that I know my stuff. It is almost like it is understood that I have passed a certain bar or I would not be a RE/MAX agent. Statistics show that RE/MAX agents average more years in the business, more designations, and higher sales totals than the average for all agents, so perhaps the public knows those statistics. I would like to think that is true, but I think it is more about the branding. Everyone recognizes the RE/MAX balloon. People see the billboards, the TV commercials, the yard signs, etc. They recognize the logo, just like they recognize the Nike emblem or Mercedes hood ornament. Combine that with the constant repetition of the "Nobody sells more real estate than RE/MAX" and you've got some great positive branding. I know for sure that it has helped me close the deal, but my question is... is it helping me even more than I know by presenting me with more opportunities to close the deal? From a listing point of view, absolutely! I am pretty confident that when I contact a potential seller and an agent from John Doe Realty or Homes Realty also contacts that potential seller, I am more likely to get the call for a listing appointment. The agent from John Doe Realty may also get a call too, but he will usually spend half the appointment explaing how John Doe Realty can offer him the same stuff as RE/MAX. If the appointment is an hour long, as mine usually are, he will only have 30 minutes to sell himself and his services, because he will spend half the appointment selling the fact that John Doe Realty is equal to or better than RE/MAX. I won't have to explain who RE/MAX is and will have 60 minutes to sell myself and my services. RE/MAX has so much more to offer than just the brand, so I usually tell people how this benefits them, but never have to explain who RE/MAX is, and therefore I can devote the whole 60 minutes to what we (RE/MAX and I) can do for them that nobody else can do. It certainly gives me an edge in landing the listing.
I have recruited some agents from unknown brands and they have told me that it is easier to get an appointment when farming and that they receive more immediate respect being with RE/MAX. My question is, in what other areas are we benefitting that we don't even realize? When a client refers a friend to me, is he more likely to just use me rather than shopping around because I am with RE/MAX? Is a buyer more likely to google for a local RE/MAX agent and land on my site or does he google for a local realtor? Is a buyer more likely to look up RE/MAX in the yellow pages or simply go to the real estate listings? If he does go to the real estate listings, is he more likely to call a RE/MAX office or agent than John Doe Realty just because he recognizes the name? Is a person I exchange business cards with at a party more likely to keep my card or send me a referral because I am with RE/MAX? In what other areas does the brand help me?? Any thoughts??
