This Sunday, approximately 45,000 runners will fill the streets of our city for the 32nd Chicago Marathon. The runners will travel as far north as Addison Street in Lakeview on a course that will take them through much of the city.
Here's what you need to know to enjoy the race and navigate the street closures.
Last Thursday I was featured along with one of my clients in a Crain’s Chicago Business video reporting on the recent rise in Chicago home sales.
I’d like to make one important correction. The reporter states in the video that in September, I received three “offers” on the luxury properties I had listed for sale. Actually, I’ve had three multiple offers (i.e. buyers bidding against each other for the same property) plus additional offers on four more homes I have listed, for a total of ten offers so far in September.
The fact that there are once again multiple buyers vying for the same properties (in high price points, no less) is a major development. I am feeling very encouraged about our prospects for a healthy fall market.
I wrote about home fire safety in a post back in September, but a family trip to a neighborhood fire station reminded me of a specific safety topic that needs emphasis - children.
Last weekend, the firefighters of Chicago Fire Department Engine 55 welcomed my family and another (including six children aged two to eleven) into their station house for a guided tour. The kids had a blast, of course, but what I appreciated most, was the time the firefighters took to give the children (and us) some important safety tips.
Don’t plan on any peaceful afternoon naps this weekend if you live anywhere near Chicago’s lakefront! High performance civilian and military aircraft will once again fill the skies over Lake Michigan for the nation’s biggest free air show, the 51st annual Chicago Air and Water Show.
This year’s show runs Saturday, August 15th and Sunday, August 16th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. along North Avenue Beach. Performers will include the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, the Red Bull MiG, and many others. Both days feature the same performers, and while there is no set schedule, the best is usually saved for last. If you plan on attending, be sure to bring all the essentials for a comfortable day in the summer sun including blankets, sunscreen, hats and sunglasses, water and drinks (no alcoholic beverages allowed), food (concessions are pricey and require fighting the crowds), chairs, a radio if you wish to listen to the show’s broadcast, and earplugs if you don’t care for the roar of low flying jet aircraft. And expect crowds - the show is one of the largest spectator events in the world drawing an average of 2.2 million people along the beaches and rooftops lining Lake Michigan.
Ah, summer in Chicago… there’s nothing like it!

It's a down market, and the real estate news grabbing headlines is cautiously optimistic at best. Who are the people who are selling their homes in this climate? Are they underwater on their mortgages? Are they struggling to make ends meet? Are they desparate? I've looked back over the 60+ sellers I've worked with recently and found some interesting results about why these homeowners decided to sell now.
