With the Elections all Over, Politicians are Heading to Myrtle Beach to Relax!

The Elections are Finally Over! ThIsabelle on Election Dayat means the political campaign ads are now ending and all of the signs that have decorated the City of Myrtle Beach over the past few months will slowly dissapear. The end of the election also means changes in several offices taking place as the new electees move into office.

One of our good clients from Circleville Ohio, home of the World Famous Pumpkin Show was up for Re-Elect for the Pickaway County Treasurer Office. Ellery Elick, has been the county treasurer for the past few years and has done an excellent job in his position. He won his race, and the one thing that Ellery & his wife Pam were even more excited was their victory trip back to their Myrtle Beach vacation home.

Ellery & Pam purchased a vacation home here in Myrtle Beach a few years back. Before purchasing in Myrtle Beach, they had been visiting on vacation for several years to Myrtle Beach and just love the area. Due to a previous connection with Pam through Longaberger, they knew that if they were going to purchase a home in Myrtle Beach, SC they were going to buy with The Blanton Team.Isabelle with Ellery

This past weekend, my wife & I along with my parents were able to catch up with them for dinner. The picture above shows Isabelle during her extensive interview with Ellery on all the ups & downs of politics. Luckily she was a little more attentive for this interview than she was for casting her vote on Election Day.

One thing for sure, Isabelle really enjoyed her first interview of an actual politician. If you ever wondered what the duties are of a County Treasurer, I would highly suggest visiting the Pickaway County Ohio Treasurer's FAQ. It answers all types of questions including what are the duties of a county treasurer, what to do if you receive a tax bill, etc.

If you are like Pam & Ellery and have been thinking of purchasing a home in Myrtle Beach, we would love the abililty to assist you in finding a wonderful vacation home. Feel free to contact us today!

Is Your Home Not Selling? Time to Address "The Pink Toilet Effect" in Your Home!

Pink ToiletIt is no news to anyone that selling real estate has drastically changed over the past two years. During 2004-2006 we experienced a very strong sellers market where you would just list your home for sale and wait for multiple offers to flood in within the first week. In many occasions, these multiple offers would result in higher than listing price offers being made by buyers.

The seller had no need to do any renovations to the home. Well with the market swinging to a strong buyers market, now a seller must look at their property and do whatever possible to make their property appealing to prospective buyers. The simple fixes of de-cluttering rooms and a fresh coat of paint are not enough anymore.

The two rooms to start your updating in any home are the bathrooms and kitchen. It is time to remove the dated pink toilet that was installed in the early 1980's and replace with an upgraded new one. Also, upgrade the faucets, flooring, counters. Another thing buyers are looking for are upgrades in appliances. Whenever you do these types of renovations remain neutral in all selections. Sometimes the little bit of extra money spent to upgrade to the granite counters or stainless appliances can be the difference between a home for sale and SOLD home.

Statistics show that Generation Y buyers normally will staying in their first home a total of 5 years. So this large pool of buyers want a home that is move in ready and not in need of renovations.

Another Cooking video from Myrtle Beach Homes Blog- Jeremy's Favorite Barbeque Chicken Recipe

While clients buy or sell Myrtle Beach homes is a great passion of mine, I have a few others. One of these passions includes cooking.

A few months ago, I shared an easy recipe on how to make some delicious Teriyaki Chicken & Fried Rice. The ohter evening when I was preparing to make dinner, my wife suggested I share another one of our favorite recipes with everyone. This recipe is for delicious Barbeque Chicken.

This is a very simple recipe in which I don't use any secret ingredients. It is made with all products you find in your regular grocery store. The biggest difference between the barbeque chicken I make and most normal recipes is that I bake my chicken in the oven for the first 45 minutes to an hour instead of leaving it on the grill the entire time to cook. This helps to keep the chicken more moist.

One other tip that was not mentioned in this video is that if you soak your chicken beforehand in salt water for 10-15 minutes it will also help to increase the flavoring and tenderness of the chicken. I hope everyone enjoys this video.

If you have any questions or comments I would love to hear them!

Text Messaging Lingo- What did you just say?

From time to time people leave comments on my Myrtle Beach Real Estate blog, or on twitter that I have absolutely no idea what they mean. I feel at times that I need Ralphie's magic Ovaltine Decoder from the movie A Christmas Story just to understand it.

I believe one of the reasons I am behind on the lingo is the fact that I do not use text messaging. On my cell phone plan, I have unlimited anytime minutes. Also, with the recent addition of my blackberry, I also have email capabilities.

So, when I see someone sends me a text message, I delete it and either email or call the person. My plan charges me $.10 per message I either view or send.

While that doesn't seem like a lot, if I received/sent 10 messages a day that would add over $350 to my phone bill each year. So, with that being said, back to my dilemma of not understanding the text message lingo.

Today I received one of these abbreviations which made me finally have to stop and decypher. Since I had a few minutes, I headed directly to Google to search and see what info I could find. I figured, if I have no clue, there has to be many others out there that do not understand and somewhere there has got to be some sort of list of abbreviations.

Here were a few of the abbreviations I have received over the last few weeks with no clue what they meant:

  • GBU- God Bless You!
  • DHU- Dinosaur Hugs (used to show support)
  • IMHO- In My Humble Opinion
  • JIC- Just in Case

Whild doing some research I found a great resource for many of the text chat lingo. It was at webopedia.com. To view their full list of text chat lingo, click here. As I began reading the list, some of the secret decoder phrases that kids are using really shocked me. As a parent you may want to familarize yourself with these. Here are just a few:

  • PAW- Parents are Watching
  • POS- Parent over shoulder
  • TDTM- Talk dirty to me.

Unfortunately, some of the others you find on the list may shock you to. So if you have a child who seems to do a whole lot of text messaging, you may want to keep this list handy. For me, this list has become very beneficial in understanding some of the text chat lingo of the world as well as confirmed that as my daughter grows older, she will have very close supervision of any electronic devices she has by daddy.
