One thing you can always count on is that Texas weather will be fast changing, often unpredictable, and sometimes brutal. That just about describes the past two weeks we've been through in the Killeen Ft. Hood area.

We wrote about the unrelenting summer heat last year, and how we were looking forward to the first "cool" 80 degree days of fall. Relief from the heat was all that was on our minds! Regardless of the weather, though, we push on and keep the work going and the houses rolling along on schedule.. RIGHT?

Not so fast. After three days of below freezing temperatures last week, and after today's Arctic blast of 40 MPH winds, rain, ice and snow and 19 degree temperature blew through for a good part of the day, we think we are ready for spring.! No more bone chilling, teeth chatterin, foot freezin' weather, ok?

Truck in cold weatherTexas is usually much milder and new home construction can continue throughout the winter months uninterrupted. These past two weeks have frozen the ground ( NOT normal here), broken water pipes, frozen water meters, and made a morass out of some of the construction sites. Not that we are complaining! Just saying that sometimes, Mother Nature gets the upper hand and all we can do is stand back and wait it out.

Looks like the wait is about over though. The Killeen area weather man says "WARMING TREND" through the end of the month. BRING IT ON! We're ready to get past this mess and get some home building done!

Can I make changes to a floorplan?

Absolutely! If you want to make minor changes to a plan prior to starting construction, just tell us! No charge for changes prior to construction!

Can I pick everything like tile, brick, granite, etc for my new home?
YES! When you build a home from the ground up, you certainly will select everything for your new home. Even if you are not in the area, we can send you photos of selections.

Will you send me pictures of my new home while it is under construction?

Pictures are good, but would video be better? We will always send you video updates along with regular photos so you can see the progress on your home!

How do you finance your homes?

Well, we don't finance our homes, BUT we can refer you to several very trustworthy local lenders who are very familiar with Jerry Wright Homes.

When can construction start on my home?
Construction will start just as soon as you are prequalified for a loan and you've signed your contract with Jerry Wright Homes!

How much deposit do I have to make to start building my home?

Jerry requires a $500 Earnest Money Deposit, which will be cashed and held by a third party title company during the construction period.

Should I Use a REALTOR or Just Work Directly with a Killeen Copperas Cove Home Builder?

Fall Weather is Welcome Change for Homebuilders

Fall weatherYes, this fall weather IS a welcome change for homebuilders and their crews. After suffering through another miserable hot and dry Texas summer, it's a real pleasure to go out to the subdivisions and walk through the homes under construction without planning on going before the sun comes up. Your list of things to take is also a lot shorter!

Summer list of things to get together every day before going out in the heat:
Big Gulp? Check. Hat? Check. Extra shirt? Check. Big pickup with a great big air conditioner? Check and double check!

Seriously, the subcontractors endure the heat and the weather every summer and home builders should appreciate everything they do to keep the jobs moving along and every house on schedule. They start early in the morning in the summer to avoid the heat of the day. Then they are gone by noon or 2 in the hot afternoon - off to somewhere cool.

This cool, breezy, sunny, weather is good for everyone's spirits. Restores the soul and makes you forget that summer is just a few months away.
