Yes, ever since 2000 Florida has been home to the Sri Lanka Weevil, starting in Broward County. Being a Peninsula, we are subject to invasions of organisms that blow by during major storms, like what they see (or taste!) and take up "residence." This beetle pest, which has its mouthparts at the end of a snout (hence, it is a weevil), feeds in rather jagged patterns, usually between leaf veins.
I maintain that one should not run for the closest "Raid Can" as the damage is modest and within the handling-capability of most, if not all, plant species and varieties.
Check out this website for the Sri Lanka Weevil, Myllocerus undecimpustulatus undatus, for all you will ever wish to know!
Below on Left: a Pair of the Weevils (about 1/4 inch long)...on right: typical damage caused by these weevils! Tree will recover, though, and makes for a 'conversation-piece' in the yard!

REAL SUNSET IN WESTERN SKY RELECTION "SUNSET" ON CLOUDS IN THE EAST
A THING OF BEAUTY NO MATTER HOW YOU VIEW IT!!! ALMOST EVERY SUMMER EVENING FILLS MY CAMERA WItH JOY.
IT IS HARD TO FIGURE HOW I SEE SO MANY FOLKS WALK BY WITHOUT A CLUE WHAT BEAUTIFUL HEAVENS HAVE WE!
This Post could easily be a "Silent Wednesday", "Curb Appeal-Closet Appeal?" or "Somebody Had a Mother Who...", but I really wonder what you all think about one's Psychologic Behavior behind such organization. I am a stickler for Curb Appeal Dressing and usually get no-where when I try to get the closets "dressed". And then I ran across this jewel of jewels.
Tell me about the man behind this closet. Are you married to one of these guys? Have you seen a woman with such a 'devotion' to closet management? Let's hear it!
Here we have an example of Florida's Finest, a 4 foot Alligator. I found him sauntering by my Sunday open House in Governor's Green at Plantation Golf and Country Club, in Venice Florida. One neighbor came out with camera, and the Gator sprinted about 30 yards before playing the "snake" role again. By the time these off-spring get about this size, old dad sends them away to find their own pond/lake and meet some mates from another family... no in-breeding allowed! Notice the relative size of the tail to the rest of the animal. Even at this early age, the tail looks to hold several pounds of nice gator steaks. It is too bad there weren't a few of these "rattlers", among the US Team on the Ryder Cup course in Wales yesterday and today!!!
Not a pretty sight, right? Inspections have passed, Closing is 7 days away and several floor tiles "Tented-Up" about a 1/4 inch in a laundry room. in Venice Florida! Worse yet, it seemed, their were no spare tiles in the attic or garage, Yikes! Well, all was not lost as I had experienced this once before when a dozen tiles "tented" right down the kitchen floor. Here is the WHY. Photo on left shows the cleaned up area beneath 4 full and a couple of partial tiles... the whole area had paint beneath that was wiped up with a damp cloth, and 95% of the Thin-Set (mortar) that is suppose to bond the tile to the concrete slab came up WITH the tile, as is shown close up in the other photo. You can't see the mortar on the turned over tile piece because it is covered with the paint that was on the concrete slab!
The WHY came about as the painter at new construction (as they all do in Florida) stood a few doors together and spray-painted them directly on the uncovered concrete, leaving over-spray as though it didn't matter for the floor will get carpet or tile. Well, it DOES matter as tile-setting Thin-Set or mortar does not bond to paint on concrete. So the tile merely sits on the floor and is held in place by the grout, until someday when enough expansion occurs to force the loose tiles to "Tent-Up".
The FIX when no matching tile are available (and Closing Lurks) is to use a hand-held Grinder fitted with a concrete wheel to remove the mortar from the underside of the subject tile, then re-set with new Thin-Set and Grout.
So, unless the painter takes his/her time to paper under the door painting areas, tile will not set properly in those areas and some REALTOR down the road will near-panic the week of Closing!
