The Angel Oak is one of the most famous landmarks on Johns Island. It's estimated to be over 1500 years old! People come from all over the world to see this majestic tree, as well as school groups and local families. Charleston City Council has just approved a plan to put 600 homes and a shopping center on the property surrounding the Angel Oak. There is a petition that I would love for as many people as possible to sign. They are looking for 20,000 signatures, but it was right over the 3,000 mark as of this blog being posted. If you get a chance, please help us tell Charleston City Council that this is an unnecessary destruction of priceless history. These trees have been around a heck of a lot longer than any of us, and getting rid of them just for the sake of greed should not even be considered.

RiverTowne Country Club is a 600-acre, 600+ unit riverfront residential country club development in a classic Lowcountry setting near beautiful and historical Charleston, SC.
The lush natural beauty of the marshes and hammocks enhances the spectacular Arnold Palmer Signature golf course, surrounded by Horlbeck Creek and the beautiful Wando River.
A mere twenty-five minute drive from Downtown Charleston, RiverTowne is a world away from the city, offering a wealth of amenities such as: a tennis club, clubhouse, swimming pool and many bike and nature trails.
RiverTowne was carefully designed to recreate the feel of a peaceful, old-fashioned 'neighborhood' with tree-lined byways, common areas and parks that are ideal for picnicking, strolling and meeting the neighbors. This exclusive community is now one where families know each other, relax together and generally enjoy the social and neighborly lifestyle of yesterday, today.

On August 15th, Hootie & the Blowfish will be playing their tunes for a really good cause. For the past 5 years, the Lowcountry has had the privilege of having this home-grown band play our "Home Grown Concert". The purpose of the event is to raise money to provide school supplies for children all over the Lowcountry. What a great cause! The concert will start around 8:00pm at the Daniel Island Family Circle Cup Stadium, so the gates will open around 6pm. Ticket prices vary, so call 1-800-677-2293 to get the whole scoop. So come on out and have some fun and donate to local children in need of school supplies! *photo courtesy of Flickr |
