As we mentioned in an earlier post, the 53rd Coastal Carolina Fair is currently in town and yesterday was our turn to jump on some rides and indulge in our share of fair food.
Unfortunately last year, Josh did not meet the height requirement of the 36 inches, but this year he topped out at 36.5 inches. As you can see from the photos below, we had a blast. We had the chance to visit the petting zoo and see all the varieties of chickens, rabbits and cows. It appeared that Josh was more interested in the cows and the baby goats more than anything else.
When it came to the rides, Josh certainly did not shy away from any of them. The rougher the ride the better it seamed, he is all boy. His face would light up as the rides took off or turned a sharp corner. If there was a steering wheel involved, that was certainly a win-win in his book. Josh loves everything with a steering wheel.
To end the night we got to view an amazing firework display that was set off on a small island in the middle of a pond.
So, here is to a successful 2009 fair, can't wait until next year.

A friend of mine emailed me the other day a brand new website that allows you to search for any registered sexual offenders within a 2 mile radius of your home (or whatever address you plug in).
This new website uses the tool OffenderWatch©, which is the nation's leading registered sexual offender management tool with hundreds of agencies utilizing it. South Carolina uses OffenderWatch© to manage and monitor the whereabouts conduct and compliance status of each and every registered sexual offender in the state.
Being a parent, I find this site tremendously useful. The one complaint I have is that it only goes up to a 2 mile radius. We live in a lesser populated area, so homes are spread out a bit further than in the city. I found three offenders within 2 miles of our home, but I'm sure that there are more closer than I'd like to think.
If you live in South Carolina, then make sure you check it out. For your sake, I hope you don't find any offenders close to your home!

The following is an email message that I received regarding the Angel Oak and the proposed development of the lands surrounding her.
If enough of us send some sort of communication against these projects, then it will signal to the council 
that we are still in this fight to save the beauty and history of this grand oak tree. Please join us and get your emails or letters to Greg Wahl and Mayor Joe Riley ASAP!
ALERT* Angel Oak Development Public Hearing opportunity-comments MUST be received within 10 DAYS!!
Please send comment letters to SCDHEC/OCRM in 10 DAYS OR LESS!! Letters MUST be received by Monday, 11/9.
If enough comment letters are received a public hearing will be held.
On Friday October, 30 the following public notice was posted on the DHEC website:
The following projects have been received for determination of consistency with the SC Coastal Zone Management Program:
Wastewater Treatment Plant on Maybank (Site Preparation), ID# 10-05-11-07B, permit no. SCR10L915, TMS# 279-00-00-248, located on the South side of Bohicket Road and the East side of Maybank Highway, Charleston, (SCDHEC-OCRM, SW)
TMS# 279-00-00-248 is the property next to the Angel Oak, part of the property proposed for development. The public notice does not reference Angel Oak Village and does not list any information about the applicant, or about the wetlands on the project site. The notice packet appears to have no specific paperwork plans submitted for the wastewater plant. The mere fact that this notice went out with so much lack of detail indicates a major need for a public hearing.
Please write Greg Wahl at DHEC to request a public hearing about the proposed "Wastewater Treatment Plant on Maybank". 10-05-11-07B, permit no. SCR10L915, TMS# 279-00-00-248
*Make sure to include that you are opposed to the proposed wastewater treatment plant because of the proximity to the Angel Oak Tree, the wetlands on the project site, and the lack of information in the public notice. Send your comments to:

You have to give it to everyone who works for Disney, they really know how to roll out the "red carpet." Today was a day filled with wonder, magic, snow and smiles, just to name a few.
The Disney Train, A Christmas Carol, rolled into Charleston on Friday and left late this evening, but before it did we had the chance to jump on board to learn how the movie was made.
We were first greeted by the train conductor, who validated our boarding passes and directed us to board the train. Upon boarding the train we were greeted by the staff and walked through the first two cars. The walls were covered with digital TVs with images from the movie and a few clay sculptures of the film's main characters.
Just above are the clay models of Scrooge and Bob Cratchett (they looked so real).
The last portion of the tour we were able to take our photo and then have them morphed into one of four characters. The photos, once downloaded, will be emailed to us and we can either download them ourselves or have Wal-Mart print them.
Just before we exited the car we got our ticket to see a preview of the movie and we snagged a last minute photo of Josh. Did we mention that there were Christmas Carolers. Yep, they were in full dress and wassailing with the best of them. Not bad for 75 degree weather.
Judging from what we saw today, we are sure this movie will be amazing. The ten minute 3D preview just blew us away. The effects are life like and the movie itself takes you back to the age of Charles Dickens.
Disney's A Christmas Carol is set to be in theatres November 6.
