Cruise Right From Charleston, SC

Did you know that you can cruise right from the Charleston Harbor?

We have a large port, and the cruise industry has just recently begun to take advantage of it.

Carnival Cruise Ship in the port of Charleston, SC

Several years ago we had our first cruise line, Norwegian, start sailing from the port of Charleston. I believe they sailed every Saturday for a 7 day cruise from March to November.

Jim and I took one of these cruises and had a great time. It was our first, and the ports of call were Grand Cayman, Cozumel, and Key West. And since Jim was born in Key West, this was the one we were really looking forward to getting to!

Then Carnival jumped into the Charleston scene for just a couple weeks. They had one cruise in May and one in October. And since their name is so big, everyone wanted on these trips.

Jim and I also voyaged on one of Carnival's cruises, and that ship went to Nassau and Freeport. Although the ports were not as great as our first cruise, we still had a wonderful time.

I'm sure that with more time we will begin to see more and more lines coming into the port of Charleston. But I think that these two are a great start!

2008 Rabies Clinic in Charleston County

Every year, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control teams up with local veterinarians to put on several rabies clinics.

puppyRabies is not a widespread problem, but in 2007 there were 162 cases of rabies confirmed in animals in South Carolina. The positive rabies cases included 92 raccoons, 32 foxes, 14 skunks, 10 bats, seven cats, three dogs, two bobcats, and two cows, according to th SCDHEC website.

The South Carolina Rabies Control Act requires that all dogs and cats have a current rabies vaccination. So these clinics help everyone make sure that their pet is protected.

"Veterinarians will conduct special reduced-cost rabies clinics to vaccinate pet cats and dogs against the fatal disease," said Sue Ferguson of DHEC's Bureau of Environmental Health. "Vaccinations will cost $3 each at the clinics."

According to Ferguson, more than 33,000 pets were vaccinated against rabies during the special clinics statewide last year.

Charleston, South Carolina is NOT in a Recession

I have been saying it for awhile now, and I finally have proof!

In the USA Today yesterday there was an article on the economy and how it's doing in different towns across the United States. The map below was part of that article.

If you scroll over South Carolina, you will see that Charleston has a big green dot next to it. And that green dot signifies that we are currently in an expanding market, not one in a recession!

This is just terrific news! I've known that Charleston was not as bad off as other areas of the country, and this is just verification.

If you have any questions about the Charleston area or our expanding market, we would be happy to answer them.

Sales are looking good for the Lowcountry

According to the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors home sales are up in the Lowcountry, despite a tumbling housing market throughout the country.

In January, 579 homes were sold and in February, that number rose to over 600. What great news for our local buyers and sellers. It is great to see that the public is starting to ignore the media hype.

How are things in your area? We would love to hear from you. Thanks
