If you have or need flood insurance in South Carolina, then get ready to pay a little bit more for your premium.
As of October 1st, flood insurance premiums rose an average of 8% through the National Flood Insurance Program. That boils down to roughly $50 more per year for homeowners with the state's average annual coverage.
In addition to the premiums going up, deductables also were increased. If your deductable was $500, then it just doubled to $1000. And if your deductable was already $1000, then it doubled as well to $2000.
Not everyone here in the Lowcountry has flood insurance. If you are in an at-risk area, then your mortgage company will require that you carry flood insurance. But if you are not in a flood risk area, then the policy is optional.

A couple of years ago Charleston lost the only IMAX theater it had for lack of revenues. We went to it a couple times, and the shows were fun, but there were honestly a very limited number of films made for the 3-D screen.
But now another IMAX is set to open up in the Charleston area. It will officially open on October 9th, but they are having a pre-opening celebration with some crazy deals! This is the official message I was emailed about the event:
