My home staging chapter - Charlotte IAHSP Regional Chaper - exhibited at the North Carolina Association of REALTORS® Expo in Charlotte, NC Oct. 5-8. We had a comfy seating area in our booth and had our chapter PowerPoint presentation scrolling continuously. The PPt with all the "before & after" pictures grabbed people's attention and provided excellent information about home staging and about our chapter. It was a great 3 days.

Home staging is wildly popular because - when done correctly - it works! The home staging industry is unregulated. This means that virtually anyone can hang out a sign and call themselves a "Home Stager." I personally know a home owner who paid $5000 upfront for home staging The "stager" picked a paint color from her fan deck, but never returned. This video clip recently aired on Fox 5 Atlanta - but it could happen in Anytown, USA. This unfortunate seller hired a "home stager" and ... well, you have to see it to believe it!
In the clip, the "home stager" when questioned about her skills, says, "Staging means so many different things to so many different people."
Are you going to get what you expect from your home stager? Know what to ask before you sign!
What is your education and training?
Do you have any certifications/accreditations?
Do you have any experience in real estate working with buyers?
How long have you been in the business of home staging?
Do you have a portfolio - If so, are these pictures of YOUR work and what are the addresses?
Do you have references?
What is your company's statistics?
Do you use rental items - If so, what?
Where do you shop for your inventory?
If your "home stager" squirms over any of these questions... run, don't walk!

Anyone else know how slow the oceanfront real estate market is? It's slow! And prices are down. Many investors are taking a big hit. Rentals are down too because folks don't have the funds for gas and a vacation at the beach.
But don't let all this gloom and doom you hear make you believe you're destined to a lengthy stay on the market. Staging is an investment and it Works!
This vacant Myrtle Beach condo sat unwanted for over a year. Black marble floors and mirrored walls took buyers back to Elvis in Las Vegas in the '70s.
These smart property owners called me to work around the marble and mirrors and mix it all together with my furniture and accessories to create magic! I love a challenge. This condo got rave reviews, brought me a lot of business prospects, and - most importantly - generated 2 offers to purchase fully furnished and is SOLD a couple of months after staging!
