Neighborhood Snapshot - Point Loma: The Gateway To The Pacific

Point Loma or Pt. Loma is a seaside community in San Diego that has a great deal of historical significance. Initially the gateway into San Diego used by Old World explorers, Point Loma is a peninsula that separates San Diego Bay from the Pacific Ocean. Settled by early Portuguese settlers, Point Loma has a long and storied history as a commercial fishing power house. This hilly peninsula is bordered by the I-8 freeway and San Diego River to the North, the Pacific Ocean to the West and South and San Diego Bay and Old Town to the East.

Point Loma is a thriving community consisting of three distinct commercial districts: Point Loma Village, Liberty Station and the Rosecrans corridor. Each of these commercial districts has their own flair and adds a great deal of variety for Point Loma residents. Point Loma is also home to two Naval Bases, a National Cemetery, National Monument and a University.

The residential side of Point Loma is where it really shines. Consisting of brand new construction townhomes and single family residences to historic homes with rich history, Point Loma is home to some of the most expensive homes in San Diego. Many of these homes have beautiful Bay or Ocean views. This is a community that truly embraces its seaside heritage as it is intertwined with San Diego’s yachting and fishing industries.

First Step To Selling A House.......Return A Phone Call!!!

Sometimes I just don’t understand it! How is it that some people are able to stay in this business with practices that could be considered suspect at best? I have an investor client who is looking to purchase a few properties in a specific development in Oceanside, CA. It’s a great neighborhood that generates substantial cash flow as well as long-term appreciation potential. There has been a great deal of sales activity in the past 6 months within this development, but currently the listings are slim. One of the listings seems like a perfect opportunity for an investor like my client. I tend to contact the LA prior to previewing a property to confirm that the showing instructions are still current (we all know that mls info isn’t always updated appropriately). It has been two days and I still have received no response from the LA. It has been on the market for 165 days so it would stand to reason that the LA would be eager to have this property shown to a serious potential buyer. It just all begs the question….how do you expect to sell a house if you won’t even return a simple phone call?

Music On The Water

There are a lot of wonderful activities in cities throughout this country and I strive to take in these activities in my travels whenever I can. I truly enjoy experiencing a special experience in a new locale. Today, I want to let everyone in on a little San Diego secret that I have been enjoying for years. I think it is one of the best annual events that this great city has to offer, yet too few people take advantage of. It’s the Summer Pops Series. Now, I know you are thinking that it is just another Summer Pops tour….but in San Diego it is something special. Yes, the music is usually very special….but what makes this event truly magical is its locale. Situated on San Diego Bay at the Embarcadero Marina Park South, this concert series takes place next to the bay with sterling views of the Coronado Bay Bridge, Coronado Islands and the various sailing vessels moored along the Bay. The experience is just as much about the beautiful scenery as it is the beautiful music. If you live in San Diego or are visiting you should check it out. It runs from July 4th to September 4th. Check it out there is something for everyone…everything from the the high end Champagne seats (which Wolfgang Puck caters) to the lawn (typically $20 or less), where families can bring in a picnic. Come check it out!

OTL: San Diego Tradition

The next two weekends bring the infamous “over the line” tournament to San Diego’s Fiesta Island. Located out in Mission Bay, Fiesta Island is a favorite haunt of dog walkers, boaters, bon fire participants, kite flier and kayakers in San Diego. OTL, as the locals call it, is part party, part sporting event, and it attracts more than 50,000 spectators to Mission Bay. Though the two-weekend affair is known for its naughty team names and excessive alcohol consumption, it’s also where longtime San Diegans gather to share stories and enjoy the sunshine.

This is the 58th year that the tournament has taken place and rumor has it the sport was invented in San Diego as a way to pass time while participants waited for beach volleyball pits to become vacant. This is truly a San Diego tradition that brings a lively crowd. Shuttle service will be available from various locations in San Diego.

San Diegans and visitors alike should check out this unique game and its yearly tournament. But be prepared it is quite a ruckus.
