This is my first blog, and after having the awesome opportunity of speaking with Margaret Rome, here goes! Thank you Margaret for your kind words and inspiration!
I have been reading many of the blogs and joining groups, to learn as much as possible about Active Rain and what makes this wonderful industry of people tick.
My daughter Jodi called me last night (Lives in Demotte, Indiana) to share as she usually does on a frequent basis. Today's topic was not about the kids, or how cold it is in Indiana, but about her new business. She has started her own photography business this past year. She has worked on several photos shoots with friends and family and friends of friends, and has done very well so far. Today, she received a call from a referral for a Wedding Shoot. Jodi was flabbergasted! The first thing she said to be was, "Mom, I can't do this! I'm not experienced! They want to pay me!!!!" She told me she wanted to call them back to cancel their meeting.
I told her how I felt the first time I went on a Listing Presentation. (This makes my hands sweat just thinking about it.) What would I bring? What would I say? I hope they don't want to sign an agreement at this first meeting? hahahaha I put on lipstick, and straightened up and drove, ever so slowly to the property. The Seller gave me 30 minutes to present, as he said 'cocktail hour starts at 5pm sharp! ' (Long story short....) I wrote the Listing agreement, and walked away exhausted yet elated that in my first month of being a Realtor, I was actually doing the business.
The advise I gave my daughter was to be prepared! (Who-What-When-Where-How) Do all that she can prior to the "Big Day," so that she won't have too many surprises sneaking up on her, and right before she gets there, take a deep breath, spend a quiet moment in her car prior to going in to meet her clients, and believe that she is exactly who they need for their photographer. She's done the work, she has the experience, now she needs the confidence. Our conversation went on for over an hour. I could hear her voice relax, and she was settling down. (What I miss the most about this conversation was that I couldn't give her a reassuring hug to say it will all go well, and how proud I am of her.)
So I say to my daughter, Go Get 'um Jodi! Go after your Dreams and make it happen. Learn from those around you, ask the questions and share your experiences. Remember what this feels like, for when your children (Joey & Genna) come to you about their new ventures, you can tell them the story about their Nama...from the beginning! Enjoy your "Firsts" I know I will never forget how my heart pumped out of my chest on my first appointment....just like it is right now, thinking that I will post this, MY FIRST Blog.
