Bike ride in a dust storm?

My wife and I headed out for our usual Bunker Hills Park bike ride. The skies were partly cloudy and a few rain drops had fallen but we saw a clearing and decided to go. After crossing Bunker Lake on the bridge we turned back to the west. The sky was black but mostly to the North. I though we could finish our run so we kept on our route. Once we reached the entrance of the park the black sky was still North and appeared like we were OK. The trail heads back to the North side of the park and we could see it raining in the distance.

Riding West on Bunker Lake Blvd we turned into the County maintenance yard and went past the Sheriffs station. I could hear what sounded like a jet over head and it was calm on the ground. As we turned South on Hanson, we looked North and saw a wall of dust coming our way. Luckily the wind was now at our back as it quickly hit 60 MPH. 3 seconds later I was over come by the dust cloud and didn't dare look back. As I approached 133rd to cross Hanson, I could barely see my wife or whether any traffic was coming. Once across I escaped the dust storm and kept riding hard, not knowing what was next. My wife wasn't so lucky crossing Hanson and had to wait for a clearing. By the time we arrived home a few minutes later, all was calm again.

Meadow Creek Girls HS softball

Meadow Creek went 1-1 today in the sections at Mendkota Park and will play again on Tuesday night at Visitation. They beat West Lutheran in the 2nd game to keep their season going. They won 7-4 with West threatening in the bottom of the 7th. Kelly Strandlund pitched great in both games. Alyssa Burg and Katie Minks both had triples and Kristina Domino gunned down 2 runners and made a great tag at the plate. Here is the team photo.

Bunker Bike ride

Finally went out for a bike ride today. It has been a few weeks since I have been out. We took the new tunnel under Hanson Blvd. and then followed Hanson North to Bunker Lake Blvd. The road construction in the area made us ride a little to close to traffic for about a mile. Once we passed the construction, we entered Bunker Park on some of the best trails in the state. The trail takes you across Bunker Lake on a floating bridge. Rolling terrain makes this ride a little more challenging than the rail bed trails that are all over.

I didn't see the sand hill cranes on this trip, they seem to be around in the early this spring. Their sound is very unique and you can hear it from quite a distance. Plenty of song birds though to listen to on the trip. The weather was perfect with temps in the low 60's and the sun on the way down.

I also learned to text while riding as my daughter was requesting ice cream. So I stopped at the Festival in Andover Station and grabbed 2 half gallons. 12 miles later I enjoyed some ice sream and listened to the Twins with my wife Patti.

Constance softball

WOW! what a game. Cross of Christ came into to the game having finished a game behind us last year and the only tie we had last year. They started out with 6 runs in the first inning but we battled back with 4. We took a 1 rn lead in the second then we battled back and forth to a 15-11 victory. Big hits came from Jim Blair's in the park home run, Pete Grover shot off the 300 foot fence and Scott Stroyny's triple. Scott finally gave up his first runs of the season tonight but still kept his perfect record intact. We are off to a great start and will need to keep it going as their are still 3 undefeated teams.

Keep on hitting Constance!
