How Did Thanksgiving Officially Start? | A Day of Thanks or Bargain Shopping!

Most of us know that the first Thanksgiving took place between the Pilgrims and the Native Americans way back when, but did you know when it officially became a Holiday here in these United States of America?
By the President of the United States of America. A Proclamation.
Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me "to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness."
Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted; for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.
And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally, to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.
Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine.
G. Washington.
Many Blessings to you and your family this Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend. Let us give thanks for those still present in our lives and remember those of our love ones that have passed. With Black Friday this and Cyber Monday that, I think the true meaning of the Holiday sometimes gets lost in the shuffle.
A Real No-Brainer | What are You Thankful For?
This could very well be the easiest post or the hardest post for me to write depending on how you look at it. I just recently learned about an ActiveRain Contest for the month of November sponsored in part by DocuSign, the electronic signature company.
The idea behind the contest is because Real Estate Professionals using DocuSign save on average at least 3 hours per week between faxing documents back and forth, printing and filing, and driving across town for signatures. So the contest is if you could save an extra 3 + hours per week, please share what your thankful for or what you would do with your luxurious free time.
After the recent events for me over the past week and half, this is a real no-brainer. What would I do with an extra 3+ hours per week? I would with out a doubt spend more time with my friends and family.
After having to put down a dear pet three months ago and then the unexpected death of my Father George Hrisco, last Monday, (it still hasn’t sunk in), you come to realize just how precious life is and how we should spend as much quality time with the ones we love.
Because you just don’t know when you are speaking with someone, that it could very well be the last time you have an opportunity to do so. So choose wisely the words you use. Quit bickering about unimportant matters, (not applicable in my case, just saying), Speak from the heart.
I would spend that extra 3 + hours going to see that movie that I have been wanting to see for a long time. Planning and actually taking that date night with my wife. Taking my doggies to the dog park more. Reading a book just for the fun of it, not because I have to. Calling a friend or family member whom I haven’t spoken to in a few years. Planning and then actually taking that dream vacation you have been talking about for years.
Whatever you do, do it with no regrets, we only get one shot at life. Do the right thing. If more people did the right thing, the world would be a much better place.
I am thankful for the many years that I did have with my Mother and Father, though I think they died too young, (Mom: 68; Dad: 76). Looking back recently at old photographs of years gone by, I am thankful for the childhood I had. I am thankful for the work ethic instilled in me by my father. I am thankful for the history behind our name, and an interesting history it is indeed. I recently learned some things about my Father that I did not know before. I am thankful for the loving, supportive spouse which I have. And finally, thankful to be alive. (sorry for the downer, but had to share what was on my mind.)
"This post is a submission to the DocuSign/ActiveRain Thankful Contest. It's possible I will win a prize for writing this post. You could win a prize too by going to the Contest Announcement and sharing your own story"

I’m at a complete loss for words right now, My Father George Hrisco passed away unexpectedly on Monday 31 October 2011. I ask that you keep our family in your prayers. For those that have asked here is the information regarding his services.
(FYI, that is a 40 year Placque for his work at Bell Helicopter Textron, he received several years ago, he actually worked there 48 1/2 years, was going for 50). I only hope I can give half the dedication that my Father did in his career.
Visitation: to be held this coming Sunday 6 November 2011 at Lucas Funeral Home located at 1321 Precinct Line Road Hurst, TX 76053 from 18:00-20:00 (6-8 p.m.)

Interment Services: to follow at 13:30 p.m. (1:30 p.m.) at Dallas / Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Because this is Breast Cancer Awareness season, and we lost our Mother; Mary Hrisco in 2005, and I know my Father supported her in her fight, we ask that you consider making a donation to my Agent for the Cure program (in lieu of flowers) in their memory along with your information as well. (FYI, my wife and I just got done volunteering over 71 hrs in October in our support of Race for the Cure, so the current total should change drastically soon).

DFW Home Sales Activity Report

(This report is compliments of: Toni Praznik; First American Title, Southlake, TX 76092)
Yellow indicates a Buyer’s Market - Indicated more than 7 months inventory
White indicates a Balanced Market - Indicated 5-7 months inventory
Blue indicates a Seller’s Market - Indicated less than 5 months inventory
Much of Northeast Tarrant County is indicating that through the end of September this year, it is a balanced market, meaning there is about a 5-7 month inventory of homes for sale. In a balanced market, the market doesn’t necessarily favor buyers or sellers.
However most of the mid-cities mainly Bedford & Euless is indicating it is a Seller’s Market, meaning there is less than 5 months of inventory. In a Seller’s market, the market favors the seller, and in most cases, the seller will be less willing to negotiate on price, because there is less inventory for the buyers to choose from.
Keller, Southlake, Colleyville, Trophy Club and Westlake are indicating that it is still a Buyer’s market in those cities, meaning there is more than 7 months inventory of homes for sale. In a Buyer’s market, the market favors the buyer, and it usually means there are more homes on the market than there are buyers, so the buyer has plenty of inventory to choose from. The sellers in a buyers market will most likely be more willing to negotiate on pricing.
