Huntsville Celebrates Sam Houston’s Birthday and Texas Independence Day



FRIDAY ♥ March 2, 2012


The day begins with coffee at the Sam Houston Statue and Visitors center.

Followed by a march to Sam Houston’s grave. The traditional march will begin at 10:15 am at Austin Hall on the campus of Sam Houston State University and end at the grave site (9th Street & Avenue I). A short ceremony at the grave site is expected to begin around 11 am.

Next, enjoy lunch at 12:30, by reservation only, at the Homestead on 19th Street.

After lunch, meet at the Gibbs-Powell House Museum at 1228 11th Street for birthday cake at 2 pm.

Finish the celebrations at 4 pm with an open house and dedication at the Walker Education Center on 19th Street.
