Another Great Business Review - The Little Bread Factory, Mora MN

Looking for a sweet treat? Or maybe you'd just like some really good bread for that sandwich you're making for lunch tomorrow. The Little Bread Factory on Union Street in Mora is THE PLACE to go!

Walk in the door and be greeted by Dawn, your lovely host on this taste bud tour! You will be pleasantly surprised at the choices you are given. Different breads constantly, including whole grains, cherry chocolate, garlic cheddar... many combinations that you will LOVE to try!

There are cookies, too, every day. Basic staples, like chocolate chip and sugar cookies line the counter, along with other local hits, depending on the day. I'm loving the "leftover" cookie, which was full of lots of delicious tidbits, including toffee, butterscotch, and more.

Scruffins are the next best thing since sliced bread. (Pun intended!) These hybrids between muffins and scones are always delicious. I picked up a couple blueberry white chocolate pecan ones today, with Dawn's glaze lightly covering them. They are simply to DIE for.

Bread, rolls, sweet treats... you will fall in love with the smells and tastes at The Little Bread Factory, right in downtown Mora. Stop by - they are open Tuesday-Friday 9-6 and Saturdays until 4. You won't regret it!

Saturday the 3rd of May is a huge deal in Kanabec County. There's lots to do, so get out there and have some fun!

City wide garage sale day is the 3rd. The Advertiser has run a long spread of all the sales going on this weekend and a map to guide you to them. There are some awesome looking sales out there, and some great stuff! Baby items, pontoon boats, and the Potato Wagon is making an appearance, too! There's also a large auction being performed by Les Stromberg of Stromberg Auctioneering at the Kanabec County Fairgrounds. It will definitely be a great day to find some deals! Most sales start at 7 AM, so make sure you're up plenty early!

May 3rd is also the annual Canoe Race down Snake River. The race starts at the public access on County Road 3 (300th Avenue), and will end at the canoe park in Mora. While at the canoe park, take a look at some of the native vegetation work that is going on, and enjoy the grass becoming green. Hopefully it will be a beautiful weekend for it!

There is also car seat checks being performed at Ogilvie School on Saturday. What a great opportunity to make sure that your child's car seat is installed safely and securely! It's completely free, so stop while you're garage sale-ing and make sure you have everything right.

Also, the Kanabec County Soil and Water District will be having their tree sale and pickup at the Kanabec County Fairgrounds on Saturday as well. If you have ordered bundles you will be able to pick them up. If you haven't but are interested in purchasing some trees or shrubs, extras will be sold. There is always an extensive variety, and the bundles are 25 in most cases for $25. Watch for the signs in town!

Get out this weekend and partake in some of the great activities! There's lots of fun for everyone!

Lock Your Doors, East Central Minnesota!

Most Minnesotans may have heard bits and pieces about the arson of a number of cabins in Pine County. However, did you know that there have been related incidents in Kanabec and Aitkin Counties?

My weekend was quite interesting, starting with a phone call on Saturday morning. One of my neighbors has two properties, and one of them had been robbed. He called in complete disbelief, because nothing like this had ever happened to him before.

The next day, we were having Sunday dinner at my mom's when we discovered that another neighbor nearby had also been robbed. They had been out of town for the weekend.

This was quite scary, considering there are plenty of evenings where my house is completely dark and looks empty. We immediately checked a few places in the area that we knew were vacant to make sure they were okay, and then went home to turn on some lights!

Sunday night the arsons occured.

It appears that it began with a couple burglaries in Aitkin County, along Highway 18. Then they moved down Highway 65 and hit a recreational property, which they burned down. They cut across 300th Avenue (County Road 3), which is a direct route from Highway 65 to I-35 and Hinckley, where they burglarized one property and burned down another. They then appeared to move toward Big Pine Lake near Finlayson, and they lit up 10 properties and burglarized a few more.

Currently there is a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the arson(s). If you have any information, call the Arson Hotline at 1-800-723-2020.

In the meantime, lock your doors, have neighbors watch your property if you are going to be out of town. Report any suspicious activity to the sheriff's department in your county, and try to help keep an eye on your property and properties around you. If we all work together, we can hopefully solve this problem!
